If your wife/husband asked you to make sure they were not kept alive in a vegetative state hooked up for machinery to live for years on end would you honor their wishes even if you appeared to be a "bad guy"?

Wouldn't it be more accurate to ask if you would want your spouse to make a decision like that based on a throw-away, emotional remark that you made after a family member's funeral when you were 23 years old?

I would expect to know my spouses wishes regarding this marriage after so many years of marriage. I have only been seeing my girlfriend for 5 years and I know for sure how she would like to be treated should such a tragedy occur. I would definitely think that the husband has a much better understanding of his wife than 3rd party second guessers who have never even met her.
