A wise decision on his part indeed. This travisty will always be connected to him. If he knew he wasn't going to run for office, he had nothing to lose and could have saved a life. That looks even worse for him if that is at all possible.

What good could have come from that, other than reinforcing the misguided view-among some-that the fight for Terri Schiavo's rights was a politcally-motivated stunt?

Getting hauled off to prison wouldn't have preserved Terri's precious life any more than Henry David Thoreau's refusal to pay taxes wound up abolishing chattel slavery in the United States.
