(I was their coach) Thought I'd better get this in before one of them zings me with the obvious answer.
It sure is a good thing that kids are resilient!
Did I spell 'resilient' right?

I won third place in the Mesa County spellling bee once...of course there weren't as many words back then....

Thanks! We'll take all of the prayer that we can get. He's currently up to his kneecaps in Greek and Latin roots as I type this...

I hadn't heard about this. What was the story?
To: politicket
Some kid in Sacramento was disqualified because he wasn't in the public schools.
To: politicket
Congratulations to your son for winning the CO spelling bee.

Thanks! We are very excited and can't wait to see what God has in store for us in Washington, D.C.
It's kind of funny that things worked out this way since my son was the only child in the bee that wasn't really trying to win it. We were actually pulling for the boy that came in 3rd (Gabriel) to win since it was his last year of eligibility.
When the competition was down to just 3 boys, and it was Gabriel's turn to spell, my son would whisper: "Gabriel, spell this word correctly. You have to win!" It was kind of funny to watch a competitor that was pulling for the competition.

It has been nearly 25 years since I spelled attempting to get to Washington (didn't make it :) and just reading the story still gives me butterflies. Congratulations!
On an aside, I recently saw a story about the Prince Georges County winner (suburban Maryland, outside of DC) and her winning word was "labyrinth" after her competitor mis-spelled "rutabaga". I cringed. Those were the winning words? And I got bumped for "mnioid" for the love of all that's holy?
