TRANSCRIPT Updated: 4:04 p.m. ET March 29, 2005 The overwhelming majority in the medical community say Terri Schiavo has close to no brain activity and has no chance of regaining awareness. Dr. Ronald Cranford, who actually examined Terri Schiavo in 2002 and testified to her condition, joined "The Abrams Report" on Monday. Cranford is the assistant chief of neurology at the Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis as well as a faculty member at the University of Minnesota's Center for Bioethics. Below is the transcript of their conversation.
DAN ABRAMS, HOST: You're one of the few people who has actually examined Terri Schiavo and you're hearing all of these people who are coming on from the sidelines saying, "She's has been misdiagnosed," et cetera. How confident are you in your diagnosis and why?
DR. RONALD CRANFORD, UNIV. OF MN NEUROLOGIST: I'm extremely confident. I think at the time of the trial in 2002 there had been eight neurologists who examined her. And of those eight neurologists total, seven of them said beyond any doubt whatsoever Terri is in a vegetative state. Her CT scan shows severe atrophy or shrinkage of the brain. Her EEG is flat and there's absolutely no doubt that she's been in a permanent vegetative state ever since 1990. There's no doubt whatsoever, Dan.

How dare you introduce professional expertise into this. Just because you know what you're talking about doesn't mean that we..them..er..ah QUICK..LOOK OVER THERE!(exit stage left)
Hammesfahr a Quack? Y'all be sure and read lonevoice's post #296. It clears up a lot of the false allegations against Dr. Hammersfahr and provides more back-up to the claims that Terri can be helped.

What in the heck are you talking about?
Just that you can't necessarily tell what is true from a picture.
Nevermind. Don't bother to answer. You sound a bit kooky.
I have no desire to engage you in conversation.
Since you did answer, let me say this and that's all.
Read through the rest of the thread. I have not voiced my opinion of what should be done and I won't.
But the scan does show atrophy. That cannot be disputed.
I made no comment about the diagnosis of PVS and how it should be made.
It was the picture accompanying the article.
Hammesfahr a Quack?
Yes.
That does not answer my questions.
I did not make the decision to use the two scans so I am unable to answer your question as to why they chose that one.
Then to compare those 2 scans is useless.
1)They are not the same slice. (evident by the skull thickness)
2) Because of the age difference.
Take that up with them. The point is there is severe atrophy in Terri's scan.
Just briefly cruised thru codeblue. Will study in depth at a later date. More than enough for reasonable doubt. Thanks. Good work.
Thanks for the link. It was very interesting and just like the other court pages.
If you have to go to court, you have already lost.
If you are a moral person, and believe right is right, and tell the truth in court, have an ethical lawyer, and oppose someone who does not, what chance do you have?
The DV aspect of Terri and Michael's relationship was not followed up on. And since it was too late to charge, not bothered with. The DV aspect of Michael's relationship to his next girlfriend, in 1992, and hidden from the court deciding the malpractice award, still scares the woman...to this day. If Terri had only talked about leaving to a coworker, it would be controversial, since she talked about it to her brother, it is more.
The electrolyte balance thing was presented in order to get it to the malpractice jury. Michael also stated he would take care of her for 51 years. Three months after the award he started DNR orders, and ordered no treatment for a urinary tract infection. The Nursing Home told him to FO and treated it. He changed nursing homes to one that would OBEY his nontreatment orders.
Any of those facts would scream for a real investigation. Not one from the area, which appear to be rife with corruption.
Ralph Nader agrees with me, Michael Schiavo is totally inappropriate as a guardian.

If you have ten minutes, it is interesting.
I AGREE WITH RALPH NADER,
okay, I said it...Please don't ever make me say it again. I feel badly enough already.
Thanks TexasFlower

I believe it was 13 doctors for the court record of which 7 believed she was in a permanent vegetative state 6 did not.
