A professor at a Bible college near Scranton, Pa., was arrested Tuesday as he tried to storm into the hospice caring for Terri Schiavo.
Dow Pursley, 56, was zapped with a Taser stun gun and tackled to the ground by officers before he reached the door, Pinellas Park police said. He became the 47th protester arrested.
Pursley, who is on the faculty of the Baptist Bible College & Seminary in Clarks Summit, Pa., had two bottles of water with him, police said. He was charged with attempted burglary and resisting arrest.
Baptist Bible College officials said in a written statement that Pursley was not acting on the school's behalf and had traveled to Florida on his personal time.
"He is a dedicated man with strong beliefs and God-given convictions," the statement said.
Pursley is the clinical director of counseling programs for the theological college's graduate school. He also helps oversee a campus clinic that offers psychological counseling based on biblical teaching.
Baptist Bible College spokesman Mark Robbins said that while the college "believes in the sanctity of life," it has not taken an official position on the Schiavo case.
Doctors said that Schiavo, 41, would probably die within a week or two after the tube was removed on March 18. She suffered catastrophic brain damage in 1990 when her heart stopped for several minutes because of a chemical imbalance.
"burglery" is technically defined as entering, or attempting to enter, a property for the the purpose of committing a crime.
Every action on Terri's behalf, is serving to draw attention to all those other helpless people trapped in similar unmerciful hospices. Almost every rebellion against evil is on behalf of one sufferer. Other's will live to benefit from Terri's tragedy, let's pray together that Terri too will live to benefit.
The man obviously understands his actions please God no matter how many goons with badges will "arrest" him for tying to help a girl being murdered by them.
Clearly, a dangerous fellow. No doubt he represented such a terrible danger to the brave officers that they needed to use a taser. I'm surprised they didn't just kill him on the spot. (/bitter sarcasm)
You know, there's a school of thought that a terrible injustice can blight the fate of nations. I wonder if it's true?
For many of us our source of hope is God, we are still hopeful and sure praying a lot for a modern day miracle.
I have such respect for people that stand up and take action for what they believe in.
Would Bush be required by Greer's dictat to order the National Guard to assist the local police?
If he was going in to get Terri, shouldn't he have been charged with attempted kidnapping?
Sigh. She really has been reduced to a possession.
He tried to steal a few minutes from MS goal of starving his wife to death.
Is that the legal definition of burglary? /sarcasm
How about you spell it right.
Yes, and the day has arrived in America when it's a crime to bring water to a woman being forced to die of thirst. I wish the Bush brothers had this man's courage.
A criminal investigation should be going on right now, but sadly , it appears that those who should be investigated are the very ones who will be conducting the investigation, assuming the investigation ever takes place.
That would be hard to prove as giving water to the dying is not a crime under any criminal statute.
All he is is in breach of a civil order of Greer.
No biggie.
Apparently he did not have strong beliefs regarding the efficacy of tasers.
I wonder why Jesus didn't make a spectacle of Himself storming the gates of courts that were handing down underserved sentences?
These people who claim to represent Christianity with this bizarre behavior are an embarrassment.
Matt. 25:35
For I was hungry, and you gave me food to eat. I was thirsty, and you gave me drink. I was a stranger, and you took me in.
"Emulation of Christ was part of a prior era. The modern interpretation of Christianity calls for adherents to make frequent tax-free cash donations, to will property to the church on their death, but otherwise to adopt very impassive, conscience-free demeanor. Supporting persons such as Terri is not condoned."

Seems like a case of false arrest.
I think Jeb should declare the hospice a crime scene and secure all the evidence... including Terri.
Wonder what the nazis, with their penchant for bureaucratic euhpamisms, would have charged someone with
had they tried to break into Auschwitz to bring help--"burglary of state property"?
