Really? Whose punishment warranted the first quake on 12/26? Whose punishment warranted the Alaska quake back on Good Friday 1964?

I'm as annoyed with those people as you are. Oh Yeah, like God is going to punish innocent people living along the Indian Ocean for what is happening in Florida with Terry Schiavo. Those folks must have brains the size of peas to believe that nonsense.

No disaster relief this time. To hell with that part of the world.

Didn't those fools last week ask all of the aid workers to leave? bad timing I guess.

Good timing if they DID leave.

8.5 is big, the last one was a 9.0.

The scale is logarithmic, so a 9 is ten times more than an 8, 100 times more than a 7, etc.

I guess that makes the 9 five times greater than the 8.5? IOW the 8.5 is 1/5, or 20% of the 9.0 in December?

Actually both of these earth quakes were one day after a Christian holiday.

Well, the sick thing is that there won't be as much stuff to be wrecked this time around.

Central and Southern Sumatra were undamaged by the December quake. If it isn't an aftershock and is a rupture of the Subduction Zone south of the December rupture, a possible tsunami will hit areas not hit and December (and actually more densely populated on the coast.)

Is this the same location as 12/26 or just the same area?

Good point....

PER USGS... it will take a Tsunami 2 hours to hit India (if there is one)- It has already been 1 hour 13+ minutes since the quake.

Well, there's some evidence the December quake was a 9.3.

It's logarithmic, 10 times the GROUND MOTION for each number increase;

However, it's 32 times the ENERGY for each full point of magnitude.

"magnitude nearly as large as Tsunami earthquake"

False statement. An 8.2 is nowhere close to a 9.0 earthquake. Richter is a modified logarithmic scale.

It is not even close.
