Eisenhower sent the federal troops into the South to protect the civil rights of people. I believe he also would have done something to protect Terri's civil right to life.
Not only that but Reagan knew the difference between right and wrong and would have NEVER let rhetoric and political expediency stand in the way of saving an American's life.
Eisenhower was backed up by a federal court order. If GWB goes into Florida, it will be in defiance of a court ruling. I'm sure that one of the purposes of the Congressiional bill was to get a federal court order that would allow POTUS to intervene if necessary. But without that court order, he would be establishing a very dangerous precedent.
Yesterday on Sean Hannity, David Boies and Jay Sekulow agreed that Jeb has done as much as the law will allow him to do. Jeb is acting as if the ground has been cut out from under him, which is in fact the case. (rebellious police, defiant Republican senators, news that his own head of DCF suppressed reports on Terri). I agree that he's not handling it well, but its unfair to assume that he was insincere from the start-- or that he doesn't care now.
Maybe what you truly believe wouldda been exactly what Reagan wouldda done, but we can never be sure and I can see major differences in the examples that you are presenting to buttress yer case and the Terri Schiavo case.
