A federal court hearing has started in one of the last effort attempts by Terri Schiavo's parents to restore their daughter's feeding tube.
But the judge already has turned down the parents once. Bob and Mary Schindler are asking for an emergency order to reinsert the feeding tube in the brain-damaged woman.
The hearing in Tampa is before U.S. District Judge James Whittemore. He turned the Schindlers down once, as did a federal appeals court and the Supreme Court. A state judge, a state appeals court and the Florida Supreme Court also have all come down on the side of the husband, who wants to let his wife die after 15 years in what some doctors call a vegetative state.
The latest defeat for the Schindlers was today when a state judge said he won't go along with Governor Jeb Bush's request to order the feeding tube reinserted. The governor had said that new allegations of abuse of Terri Schiavo need to be investigated. The governor also tried to challenged the diagnosis that Terri Schiavo is in a persistent vegetative state.
Well we need to keep it visible. There are many political reforms that could be worked to push back against this scourge, but they take time and patience.
That's ok. God will remind us eventually. Maybee sooner than later, you never know. It is a bit unsettling that this is coming to a head right before Easter.
Hmmmm..... coincidence ?
For such a powerful country, we sure seem weak tonight.
"Oh, you know, I posted earlier (at 6:10, in response to a 6:05 poster)"
I just wanted to amplify this post but the earlier thread was locked.
I didn't know that the hearing started at 6:00. All that I had heard was that a decision was forthcoming at 6:00.
I can't think of anything to say that won't be deleted or get me banned.

"Because for many, many people when he spoke as he did yesterday, he held out what may prove to be false hope."
Sadly this seems true, or he would have done something by now. But it shouldn't be a surprise to anyone since many of our politicians have been letting us down for years.
No we won't. Her 'loving' husband will sell the rights to a movie and books galore will flock the shelves. If anyone buy them or watches the movie so this man makes money on this they are just as hypotical.
WARNING: I AM, AS MY PASTOR WOULD SAY, IN THE FLESH.
I am very, very angry.
I will not forget.
I will remind people.
I will write letters.
What's it worth?
What will it do?
Depends.
Depends.
I can tell you for sure, that there are already people I will speak with on a need-to basis only, because what they think of life came out during this issue.
Once I learn who Cannot be trusted to value life, I tend not to forget.
I like it.
Whittemore is a Federal Judge. He did rule once and his last statement of the whole ruling was:
"This court appreciates the gravity of the consequences of denying injunctive relief. Even under these difficult and time strained circumstances, however, and notwithstanding Congress's expressed interest in the welfare of Theresa Schiavo, this court is constrained to apply the law to THE ISSUES BEFORE IT. As Plaintiffs have not established a substantial likelihood of success on the merits, Plaintiffs' Motion for Temporary Restraining Order (Dkt.2) must be DENIED DONE AND ORDERED in chambers this 22nd day of March, 2005
JAMES D. WHITTEMORE United States District Judge
I wish I knew exactly what the issues were that were brought before him, but I have heard they were not very good ones.
I agree with you. I don't respect people who don't respect life. They are lowest form of scum. I'll not forget either.
I agree though I'm not very hopeful.
Everything is either spun or managed in Washington these days. People willing to stand up for principle in DC are few and far between. They want to get reelected - that's job one. And trust me, having worked up there for a number of years, I was made all too familiar with that reality.
Mabe or it might just be another bad movie to play on Lifetime.
Well, the problem is, once he does it, a court will order Terri back into her husband's custody and the starvation to continue.
Any victory would be short-lived unless he can get a judge to go along with him, and he has had no luck.
so, do you think it's a good sign that we haven't heard anything from the court yet? I'd like to think that the judge is actually listening to the arguments, but the pessimist in me thinks he's dragging his feet hoping Terri will die before he has to issue a ruling.
That image almost caused me to crush my monitor. What a vile piece of sewage.
Just what does Gov. Bush do with Terri after he rescues her?
Where does he go to get her a new trial? The total judicial system has already condemned her.
I would suggest he get her and fly her out of the country but I'm sure he would face impeachment if he did.
I do wish he would proceed with impeachment of Judge Greer.
I also wish someone would file suit about Terri's rights to have her family with her as she is dying. Who the hell does that judge think he is anyway.
I would assume any American would want to be with their daughter as she was dying.
I wouldn't dare ask. We are getting very limited information about the case here. It's only because of my participation here that I am getting more than 5 minute snippets.
