WACO, Texas -- President Bush yesterday said he opposes a civilian project to monitor illegal aliens crossing the border, characterizing them as "vigilantes." He said he would pressure Congress to further loosen immigration law. More than 1,000 people -- including 30 pilots and their private planes -- have volunteered for the Minuteman Project, beginning next month along the Arizona-Mexico border. Civilians will monitor the movement of illegal aliens for the month of April and report them to the Border Patrol. Mr. Bush said after yesterday's continental summit, with Mexican President Vicente Fox and Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin at Baylor University, that he finds such actions unacceptable. "I'm against vigilantes in the United States of America," Mr. Bush said at a joint press conference. "I'm for enforcing the law in a rational way." The Minuteman Project was born out of a long-held perception among many residents that more Border Patrol agents are needed to handle the flow of illegal immigrants. Mr. Bush was criticized by both Republicans and Democrats earlier this month for failing to add 2,000 agents to the Border Patrol, as set out in the intelligence overhaul legislation he signed in December. The president's 2006 budget allows enough money to add only 210 agents for the U.S. borders with Canada and Mexico. Mr. Bush said he will "continue to push for reasonable, common-sense immigration policy." He has proposed legislation to grant guest-worker status to millions of illegal aliens already in the United States. The legislation has attracted scant support in Congress, where it is widely regarded as another amnesty that will encourage even more illegal immigration.
Just enforce the laws Mr. President, the border project will go away.
(snicker)
They wish. Most of them are too old to be Brownies, but exhibit the same girlish, cult hero, rock-star worship of our President.
He'd be using that line item veto, hot 'n heavy to quash anything they'd try to pass and enact, I'd bet.
I wonder what the possibility of victims of illegal aliens' crimes suing personally those responsible to enforce immigration laws might do to change some attitudes.>>>>>>>
Here's a case that's well worth watching......& Mr Garcia is thinking about suing Austin TX, since his daughter's murderer was an illegal. Austin PD had previously arrested him, however Austin 'protects' illegals by not reporting them to the Feds.

Another link with more info......Notice Mr Garcia was on Lou Dobbs one week & O'Reilly this week. (I hope he sues & wins !!)

Virginia "Jenny" Garcia was an 18-year-old college freshman when she was murdered with a butcher knife in her own house, in her own room, on her own bed allegedly by an illegal alien. The accused murderer, David Diaz Morales, whom the Austin police had earlier held in custody for child molestation, had been released rather than deported because of the city's sanctuary policy.
And the Washington Times reporter gets his desired effect, how nice.
When the impeachment happens, I won't say a word in protest. I just hope VP Cheney isn't cut from the same cloth as GWB.<<<<
I will not only not protest, I'll be first in line to sign the petition! And if cheny feels froggy after that - well, he can JUMP!
You think it's big business?
You may be right.
I happen to think it's "politics."
PC politics.
Sent to DiFi and Barbara Boxer...(alot of good it will do)
If you support the effort to attach the AgJOBS amnesty to the Iraq supplemental spending bill, you will go on public record as supporting amnesty for illegal aliens. Not only that, but you will be watering-down a counterterrorism bill to improve national security by creating a massive loophole for illegal aliens and terrorists.
This will not go unnoticed. Please avoid pitting yourself against almost 75 percent of Americans and oppose every effort to attach the AgJOBS amnesty to the Iraq supplemental spending bill.
What makes you think we'll ever know the terrorists came in though Mexico? How do we know the 9/11 batch all came in through work visas? Because the Government told us so?
If the next awful attack within our country is from an illegal alien crossing the southern border, no branch of Government will want that disseminated. The Deathocrats want open borders more than they want to damage the Republicans. We would never get the word that Abdul or Mohammad crossed the Mexican/Arizona border one night with a bunch of Azetlan Freedom Fighters.
What demographic crisis are we facing, we're already taking in a million people a year legally, more than the entire world combined. Pretty soon the whole world will be here, then what are they going to do to keep the economy expanding, import space aliens?
Well Mr President, if you don't want American Citizens on the border, then I suggest you send TROOPS to the border to keep them off of it.
That's what I mean, they need the spine to override his vetoes.
Austin isn't the only city with the sanctuary policy. It's rampant...and insane.
It puts him in a tough position in fairness I believe.<<
It is not a tough position to do the will of those who elected you - nor to protect this country as is his constitutional DUTY!
Bush has become a tyrant. Plain and simple.
I am amazed that President Bush doesn't see the border problem with as much clairity as he does the rest of the Global war on terror.
And I'm growing tired of Mr. Bush!
He(Bush) said he would pressure Congress to further loosen immigration law.
Well put, WCF!!!!!
Your question is a joke right? You haven't figured it out yet? It's the economy stupid - let illegals into the country, boomers buy 2nd homes, rent out their first home to illegals, and it keeps the economy moving.
Do you really believe that "75% of Americans will oppose" this effort? How many of them will even know about it?
he needs to keep running around talking about social security. in my opinion, the border issue is NUMERO UNO. Hellary is smart enough to see that, and she will ride that pony to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.
