Jeb Bush Renews Call to Help schiavo

PINELLAS PARK, Fla. (AP) - Their options dwindling after two failed federal court appeals, Terri Schiavo's parents and brother vowed Wednesday to take their fight to the U.S. Supreme Court and state Legislature as the brain-damaged woman was in her fifth day without a feeding tube.

Gov. Jeb Bush renewed his call for the Legislature to step in and ``spare Terri's life.''

In a 2-1 ruling early Wednesday, a panel of the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals in Atlanta said the parents, who have battled with son-in-law Michael Schiavo for years over the woman's fate, ``failed to demonstrate a substantial case on the merits of any of their claims'' that the feeding tube should be reinserted immediately.

``There is no denying the absolute tragedy that has befallen Mrs. Schiavo,'' the ruling by Judges Ed Carnes and Frank M. Hull said. ``We all have our own family, our own loved ones, and our own children. However, we are called upon to make a collective, objective decision concerning a question of law.''

....just a thought...but couldn't a priest from the Catholic Church bring water to Terri? He wouldn't be interfering with the Court ruling...just acting as a priest in giving Terri's last rites....

What a sight on CNN right now: children being put in handcuffs, arrested, and put in the squad car for trying to bring her water.

Are you sure that Judge Greer has gone even this far?

I would hope that at least one clergyman who could perform this will at least ask to be admitted. To think Judge Greer would take away her right to last rites is a final insult to all of the injury he has already done this poor lady.

Niiiiiiiiice. Media manipulation. I wonder who those kids belong to, and who put them up to it?

FYI -
I heard one of the lawyers for the parents (Barbara Wells, I think?) on the Dennis Prager show. She indicated that in addition to appealing to the Supreme Court, they have also filed an appeal with the entire panel of judges in the appeals court (whereas it was originally only ruled on by 3 judges). They believe that gives them a better chance for a favorable ruling. She also said that they probably wouldn't hear back on that one until the morning. I pray Terri's weakening life will last that long.

I am not sleeping and have heard the same from many others. This is affecting everyones' conscience (those who still listen to their conscience that is).

I am with you completely! It has to be done right and they have to know this will stand and not have it overturned once again.

Keep climbing up the ladder. She already lost her job. There are people who work in that hospice who are licensed. Surely the hospice is accredited.

She has been treated with the neglect which would land the rest of us in court. I do not understand why no one thought to go to the licensing boards.

Thanks! Was just confirmed on another thread that the original pleading to the District Judge was probably the wrong way to go -- it was supposed to be new not go after Judge Greer. He said they now had a roadmap to following in the new appeal that came from the District Judge and the dissenting judge to show they how to plead.

There is a lot in this case that makes no sense -- licensing board should have been the first stop and keep on going. Where is the money from the pro-Life people to help get really good lawyers that plead the case and not show up on talk shows?

If the Florida Senate passes the bill, then Jeb can act!

Hi. I've been trying to find out what the content of this bill is. Can you, or anyone else, explain it to me?

"It has to be done right"

Absolutely.

Btw, something just occurred to me. I'm sure someone has mentioned it but if so, I haven't seen it.

Given that the news reports say it would take Terri up to 7 to 10 days to pass away from this, I find it an especially cruel touch on Judge Greer's part to order her tube taken out 7 days before Good Friday and 10 days before Easter.

Regarding the previous post, I mean, if Terri does die, it just destroys this holy week for her family. They will never again be able to celebrate the Resurrection without grief and sadness.

Beautiful and symbolic

We need more people willing to do this for it to have any effect.

I have called for civil disobedience in this case on my blog

That is not factualy correct. His order was ALL nurishment. That is why they can ARREST, even children, trying to give Terri a drink of even WATER (Which she can drink). The whole thing smells of EVIL doing.

Also points to the obvious fact (IMO) that there is a huge spiritual battle going on here.

Sadistic if you ask me! Maybe this is what this Country needed to wake up that the judiciary is out of control and something needs to be done. When a State Judge in Florida can order a woman be starved and not even be allowed to have fluids by mouth, then Americans need to wake up to what is amounting to judicial tyranny.

This time Floridians better do something about a judge and get him removed. They talked about getting rid of their Supreme Court justices in 2000 but want to bet that none of them were voted out when their names came up to be renewed?
