This is really interesting because if I remember correctly, mandatory handshaking was instituted when I was a kid because it was thought we should be good sports. It was the LAST thing we kids wanted to do.

This problem extends beyond simple handshaking after a game. The competitiveness of many Americans these days stretches too far. To the point where they cannot compete or disagree without being enemies. Take the last election as an example. I literally saw Dems and Reps who were great friends and co-workers literally stop talking because of their politcal differences. Is this direction we want to be heading? I think not.

"For years, I have thought it was superficial," said Lowell High coach Ernie Feibusch, who has been coaching soccer for nearly 40 years.

I agree. We didn't do it. Some individuals may have visited with others on the opposing team but we just generally picked up our stuff and headed for the locker room or bus, winners and losers.

If you teach proper values things happen naturally. Liberals don't trust us to do the right thing so they mandate values and actions (PC), and we end up with this kind of thing.
