Really?
poll data from ABC news:
70% say Congress was wrong to intervene
60% oppose the new law
67% suspect political motivations
78% would not want to live in such a situation
Catholics support removing the feeding tube 63-26%.
This is not a partisan issue either, with 65% of Democrats, 63% of Independents, and 61% of Republicans supporting the husband's decision.
I wish someone would do a poll which also asked a number of true/false questions making various allegations against Schiavo et al., some true and some false, and with varying degrees of veracity [making abundantly clear to the respondent that the existence of an allegation on the poll does not imply its truth and should thus not influence the poller's response].
It would be interesting to know what portion of the "kill Terri" respondents are aware that (1) A malpractice judgement was awarded specifically for Terri's care, but Michael has spent most of it on other things; (2) Michael ordered all therapy stopped immediately after receiving the award; (3) Michael pledged to marry another woman, by whom he (IIRC) already had a child, before he remembered his wife's supposed "wishes"; (4) Terri is not an a respirator, and some nurses have given testimony that she might be able to take food or liquid by mouth, but Michael forbids that; (5) doctors' opinions that Terri is PVS are not unanimous, and the doctors who have declared her PVS have spent less than an hour each with her. The above are all facts which I believe are indisputable. I would expect that many people who might think Terri should die but don't know the above facts would change their opinion if they did know them. A "kill Terri" poll response by someone who does not know the above facts should therefore not be considered meaningful.
If you don't have any information, and information is mass produced by the MSM, then early surveys will always tilt in their direction.
We don't have instant media, but rather we have the internet, the radio, and a few magazines & papers. The dissemination of news does work with those outlets, but it trickles into the public.
A poll one month from now will be different.
Can't see the connection between your quoting polls and my saying the "professional empaths" are MIA when it comes to saving Terri.
