"Bush isn't a king... he doesn't have that kind of power."
Then seize it the way Lincoln did. The power is there, just not the guts to use it.

He is Chief Executive of the ship of state. The captain of a vessel is responsible for every action occuring on his ship while he commands. I love him, but he is responsible.

He doesn't need to consider anything he's just chewing up the clock before he rules against the law and Terri. That way he gets closer to killing her and rendering the case moot.

I wonder if the judge will even make a yes or no call while it still counts. If he can have his dinner and sleep at night with this outstanding decision, it's not a good sign.Martin Luther King's Letter from Birmingham Jail
We should never forget that everything Adolf Hitler did in Germany was "legal" ...[snip] I must confess that over the past few years I have been gravely disappointed with the white moderate. I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice;
King might just as well have been condemning the lame arguments of the hard-hearted politicians who voted against the bill that President Bush eventually signed.
If Terri dies, it might be time for a march on Washington.

And if you check his 'knowledge of the law' you'll find he agrees almost word for word with the Framers of the Constitution. That would be your opinion. For contrary views, click here for National Review articles regarding Napolitano.

I have deep affection for President Bush, but the buck stops with him. Either he can act preemptively, like I applauded in Iraq, or he can role over and let an innocent woman die at the hands of the state.
A lot of folks will say, "but do we want the president declaring EOs everytime there's an end of life controversy?" to which I say, in agreement with you, (I believe), that if the President slaps the judiciary hard with the mighty executive hand, perhaps they will ponder their actual calling--judging the law, not making it.

Title is misleading. I did talk to a nurse friend, and she said Terri's death will be painless. If feeding tube is not reinserted, I will take comfort in this, which I pray is true. It assuredly is not.

I don't feel good about this. Anybody else????
I agree. This judge is a Clinton appointee. If the judge rules against Terri can President Bush use an Executive Order to save her?
To: sonsofliberty2000
Clearly, this judge should issue a temporary restraining order while he weighs the arguments and familiarizes himself with the case. If he's not willing to do that, he's just playing games and should be replaced.

It makes me wonder, with all the retirees down there, whether there isn't an industry of death behind these rulings, a lobby of geriatric "care-givers" who are intent on dismantling the barriers against death by starvation, so that they can clear beds, or collect on wills, etc. It's been suggested.

What's startling about the law-and-order-even-if-it-ends-an-innocent-life crowd, is that they will put up with absolute fiat, a coup of state declared by the Supreme Court, in striking down laws of the people, but if the president fights back--as I believe Hamiliton advocated he should--then, no, no, no, that makes him a king.
Nonsense.

The President, beyond doubt, has a great deal of power of public persuasion and he needs to use it right now. He should "take the form of a common caring citizen" and camp outside that care facility and demand justice!

That is exactly what I meant. Amazing what instilling a little healthy fear will get done.

The Florida Brain bank, which does exams on the postmortem brains of people who had been diagnosed with dementia, also provide services to living persons with dementia.

I don't know if he can use an executive order, but I wouldn't expect one. I am feeling worse the longer this goes on. Wonder if anyone has any idea how long this guy thinks he has got. Not a good sign that he hasn't ordered the tube back in yet.

What's amazing about some hysterics around here is how they twist and misrepresent what some think (not to mentin the facts of the actual case).
If you want a dictator instead of a president, you're entitled to your desire but recognize it for what it is.
President Bush and Jeb Bush are not the bad actors in this saga.

If the Clinton judge rules against Terri, President Bush should issue an executive order or send in the Marines. Let the Dems try to impeach him.
