'Girls Just As Bad As Boys' (College "Girls Gone Wild")

CARBONDALE -- On the dance floor at Gatsby's II, a popular bar at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, a tall brunette drinks beer from a plastic pitcher while she grinds her backside into a man's body.

A silver disco ball hangs overhead while a blond woman in a pink, pleated miniskirt writhes on her partner's leg.

A girl notices that her boyfriend's attention is wandering. With a manicured hand, she grabs his face and plants a Hollywood-worthy kiss on his mouth.

On this sticky dance floor, littered with plastic cups and packed with gyrating bodies, women are the hunters as much as the hunted.

Traditional stereotypes dictate that men want sex, and women crave love. But, on today's college campuses, students say those gender lines are blurrier than a pair of beer goggles.

When a University of Illinois sorority girl observed over lunch at a Champaign cafe that "guys aren't looking for love," her friend chimed in: "I don't think we can blame it on the guys. I'm not looking for love, either."

Girls are just as bad as boys now," another woman said.

"To guys, [sex is] still like scoring," said author Tom Wolfe, who spent two years on college campuses researching his new novel. "The strange part is that it's become that for girls, too. They'll say, 'I scored Jack last night . . . finally!'''

A federal government survey of 4,600 college students found that slightly more male than female undergrads are virgins.

A man is thrown in jail. His "freedom" is impaired.

In that case, a real person has had his freedom to come and go as he pleases impaired. Freedom is a meaningless concept unless applied to the rights of individuals.

I own my nose

What is this "I" you speak of?

I'm not sure I understand your question. I'm referring to myself as an individual human being.

From a materialist standpoint, the notion of the "individual" is semantically meaningless. You say that "you" own your nose. What is "you"? Your brain? Do "you" own your brain, or are "you" and your brain the same thing? If the latter, are all human beings merely brains? When someone says "point to yourself", do you point at your brain and say "this is me"? And if your brain is damaged, are you less of a human being than a person with an undamaged brain? Is a brain in a jar a dead person, or merely an organ?

When you say "I", are you referring to your brain, or to some part of your brain, or an individual molecule within some part of your brain, or what?

Where is this "I" you speak of? It can't be pointed to. It can't be observed. It can't be measured. We can point to, observe, and measure the human body and its parts, including the brain, but all we will discover by such analysis is various lumps of meat, not self-aware persons. As far as materialist science is concered, neither "you" nor "I" exist.

They think they've won in their 20's. When they try to settle down, though, they find that many of those wild party girls have developed a taste for promiscuity. So she cuckolds them, takes the kids, takes the house, and gets child support. And they start complaining about American women and the divorce courts, and become angry old men.

Not to burst this one as it is on track for a lot of men, but quite a few figure out that after the first divorce; they switch to foreign women. Right or wrong, that's what they are doing.

Promiscuity = increased risks of disease, pregnancy, bastard kids and all the other things that come with it.

Risk? yes! Regular outcome? No! If I in principle were not against casual sex, do you think that type of risk would stop me? would it and did it stop any1 at all?

Oh, I wouldn't enjoy it now, but that makes me kind of sad.

One year I was at the Holiday Inn Oceanside and there was some incredily buff guy there. At the end of the week he pulled off his Speedos and a line of girls pulled the crotch of their bikinis to the side and mounted him for a few quick strokes.

And then there was the sensuous banana eating contest at the bar.

I agree it's probably wilder now, but Wow!

Halloween was always a good time - back in the old days anyway.

"...and your proud of your past?"

I was being honest about my past, I didn't say I was proud of it. Please feel free to put words in my mouth at your leisure.

"Much lower divorce rate. I've read 60 to 80 percent lower."

That's impressive.

"Too bad for you."

It was an awkward experience. I can't say I regret it but I never repeated it.

"I don't believe you."

OK. All I'm saying is I didn't analyze my wife when we were dating. I just fell in love.

"The hooker part is gonna get you in trouble!"

With who? My wife? God? They both know about it already. :)

"Of couples that practice natural family planning (i.e., no sterilization agents or "birth control"), the divorce rate is under 3%."

Iteresting... I guess if they know they want a family, they want to stay a family? Makes sense to me.

The real problem with this thread is the lack of pictures!

But why, I wonder, does the double standard exist? Why shouldn't a woman judge me or any other man on an equal basis?

I wonder the same thing. A lot of the girls I know who've made the same choice I have - chastity until after the wedding, thanks - seem to have a pretty defeatist attitude about finding a guy who's got the same principles. I don't want to spend years waiting and remaining pure, only to have my husband pass on a gift from one of his ex-lovers. Or be secretly thinking I'm not as hot as he girl he knew freshman year of college.

It's not an impossible thing I'm asking - and since I really like geeks, I've got a better chance of ending up with someone who hasn't been sowing all that many oats. But the double standard seems really weird to me. My parents always expected the same of my brothers as they did of me and my sisters; but a lot of people don't see it that way.

"But why, I wonder, does the double standard exist? Why shouldn't a woman judge me or any other man on an equal basis?"

Because you can't compare apples and oranges and expect them to be the same. In general, men are expected and look to marry a "good woman" whatever that is. In our society a good woman can't be promiscuous. She can be an alcoholic, a witch, two-faced, etc., but she can't be promiscuous. In general, women are expected and look to marry a good provider. Sexual history of the man means nothing if he can put food on the table for the family. Women aren't helpless when they're pregnant but they do need, and deserve help.

Please note that I said 'in general'.
