"But GLA that door is not being opened. The sole purpose of the U.S. Congress intervening on behalf of Terri Schiavo is to save her life, not extinguish or manipulate it."

I agree.
As I understand it, the Fed Gov is there to make sure injustices like these can not stand when a state/any state drops the ball. This judge has indeed droped the ball in the state of FL.

He was two years old!!! If your wife or husband is in a accident they dont call the parents, they call the spouse. When decisions are made to continue or not to continue life support, they dont talk to the parents, they consult with the spouse. That is my point.

Your decision was your decision, but it doesn't entitle you to make those decisions for someone else. Terri is an adult, she had plenty of time to make a living will, they have been common for a very long time. She never did. If her husband had remained at her side through all of this, people might not suspect his motives, if he had allowed her to have every chance that modern medicine allows, they might not suspect his motives. But that's not the case here.

Terri is not deteriorating. She is not in pain, her parents have offered to take full custody of her. Her husband has basically abandoned his marriage and with it his right to have a say in her life or death.

Starvation and dehydration is not a painless way to die for someone who is mentally alert, and Terri has proven herself to be mentally alert. If you want her dead so bad, then fill up a syringe and take her out yourself.

Her cerebral cortex is basically liquid

I have heard that she has not been administered tests capable of determining this. In any event, there is way too much bandying about of speculations as if they are facts.

How confident are you that your assertion is true? And what does it mean? Frankly, many of the democrats on this issue sound like they have liquid cerebral cortexes.

Little harsh there. I'm on your side of this argument but that was mean. Let's keep it above the belt.

"I agree. This is a family matter period."

Premeditated murder is never a family matter.

The husband normally respects the parents view as well in this case this is not happening.

Maybe but in one of his posts he did infer that though later one amended the statement.

Oh please, I dont want her dead. This issue is bigger than her. I am concerned that the federal govt is going to come in and take over this type of decision. Of course every situation is different, and if anything I hope people will take this situation to heart and get living wills drawn up.

Is food and water extraordinary means?

No. That is the basic question.

This is something that really bothers me. They are killing this woman without one whit of concern for her parents. What's up with that??? It's like, "yeah, she's your daughter and you want to take care of her, but we don't care! We'd rather starve her to death, by golly!"

The federal government would not be getting involved in this if this were a normal case. As it is, the state already got involved in this. You will notice that the judge said she was not to be given food or water. They took the tube out, but he had to make sure she was not given food or water even if she could eat on her own. Why is that?

They should, if the person is still ALIVE.

You're right.

Scott wanted to live with another woman. So he killed his wife and sunk her in the bay. Didn't ask the Courts of Florida to help him prepare the cement buckets.

Micheal wanted to live with another woman. So he did. Then he goes and asks the kindly, beloving, and pain-less Courts of Florida for an order that allows a registered and licensed Medical Doctor and staff to starve his wife to death.

Not the same at all.

Can you at least see my point in that if the feds are allowed to overrule the rights of a spouse in this case, they can overrule them in ALL cases

I see that point but I don't have any hesitation in believing that it is an individual right and responsibility first.

In case you weren't aware, the govenment takes over in many decisions about our lives. If they hadn't, we may have no rights at all.

That poor girl would have more rights if she was on Death Row

Or a Muslim Iraqi or Afghan woman seeking the right to vote in which case the full armed might of the US would be available to protect her rights!

Please educate yourself about the case. There are no stated wishes by Terri.

And since when is a perfect body a determiner of one's worth as a human being? Are parapelegics worthless? How about the retarded? Persons with autism? Someone who has had a stroke? A baby born without limbs? Where does it end? Is the mind and the spirit dependant on perfection of the mortal body?

The rush to kill the helpless is no more than a selfish act to prevent one's own inconvenience. It hurts no one to allow this woman the love and therapy from her family. It's simply a living reminder to the Death Cult that humans have worth because they are human.
