Mother pleads for Terri Schiavo's life

MITCH STACY

Associated Press

PINELLAS PARK, Fla. - Hanging their hopes on a last-minute compromise in Congress, Terri Schiavo's parents notified her hospice to prepare to have her feeding tube reinserted on Sunday, her third day without food or water.

Congressional leaders from both parties hoped an agreement reached on a bill would allow the tube to be restored while federal courts review her case. The House and Senate were expected to take up the legislation by Sunday or early Monday. If passed, President Bush planned to sign it.

But Mary Schindler pleaded for parents nationwide to call their congressional representatives and pressure them to vote for a bill to prolong her daughter's life.

"There are some congressmen that are trying to stop this bill," she said outside her daughter's hospice. "Please don't use my daughter's suffering for your own personal agenda."

SNIP

Rep. Robert Wexler, D-Fla., issued a statement late Saturday saying he will make an objection that would stop the vote Sunday. Any member can demand that a majority of members be present to do business. Rep. Earl Blumenauer, D-Ore., said he was trying to gather enough votes to defeat the bill Monday

She has been sentenced to death, do so humanely with an injection as the end result is the same.

And her crime is????

Good Lord, what have we come to?

Terri's friends testify she would want to live.

Yet, somehow, only Michael and his relatives are counted "credible" by the court......despite Michael not remembering she would want to die until he got filthy rich off her accident and then it suddenly came to him.

"Quite a few people on Mrs. Schiavo's "side" disapprove of her husband behavior and find that distaste part of the argument. It's not. His actions, positive or negative are tangential. People don't know what they would do in that position."

Her husband's behavior is vital because it shows what kind of man he is and puts grave doubts into his truthfulness and credibility.

I agree what you just said, so now we want to throw it open all the way????

I'm about as conservative as they come, but I refuse to give anyone but the one I chose..my wife, my wife and my wife, the authority to determine my fate should I be that incapacitated.

Here is my fear if we open this door...

Picture Hillary Clinton in office and a dem congress. It is decided something must be done about the blood shortage in this country so the Feds decide to "tap" every comatose patient in the country. Keeping them alive just to feed the blood banks.

Don't think it can't happen. If you give the feds the ultimate decision, they will USE it!

The only case I can think of that is remotely on par with this case is Karen Ann Qunilan's case.

The last time the Congress intervened in an individual case like this was a woman who went into hiding in a foreign country to keep her children away from her husband (I forget her name). Anyway, Congress passed a law allowing her to come back and not have her kids snatched away from her. This was a circumvention of state law.

The federal law was ruled unconstitutional.

Hi MIke: I can not. All I am saying is the real question we must all ask is do we want this kind of privacy invasion by the federal govt. We have enough to deal with regarding yes, the judiciary, but the legislative branch is abusing its power too.

Now, on another note, posting privileges under mzbzybee have been taken away because I differ with people here so that pressed the abuse button. I want to complain to JimRob how do I do it. I have been a member here since 1998 and I am no TROLL!!!!!

The day that door opens, we are all at risk of losing our ultimate rights to the state.

It is exactly the opposite. This case is about Terri Schiavo's ultimate rights. There is not clear evidence that she would have made this decision but apparently losing that ultimate right is not of concern to you.

You know, I believe that the reason that the dems are fighting this case so much is because of the abortion issue--they don't want to be seen as "hypocrites", fighting for Terri's life when they don't want to fight for the lives of unborn babies---

It all boils down to the dems paranoia that the "woman's right to choose" will be taken away from them--

You are saying exactly what the Dem liberals from Florida are saying. Doesn't that make you feel good?

A mother pleading for someone to stop starving her daughter to death trumps all of what you jsut listed.
The RATS looks real bad on this the more people hear Terry's story and hear from her parents.

can't help you with the last part...

I am actually glad the feds are seeing something that is completely wrong or at the very very least unverified, something that is very cruel and something that WILL be very painful for Terri, and actually DOING something for a change.

The nation would be in a better state if the FEDS were so proactive towards its own programs IMO.

Your argument is that a husband may kill his wife if she doesn't talk. Of course you would allow Scott the same freedom -- his wife bugged him too.

I am not sure how much the dems are actually fighting this. It will be interesting to see if there is a roll call.

My guess the other 4 Dims are:

The Communist Three who voted against the Anti-Secession Law (China):

McCollum (MN)
McDermott
Oberstar

and Robert Wexler (FL)

If I'm not right on all of the above, I bet I'm right on Bagdad Jim. He either won't show up or vote against it.

> Good Lord, what have we come to?

I agree.

But also, there are rational people who believe that it was this girl's decision to not desire life support. If that is the case, and the courts have decided so, and if a feeding tube is deemed "life support", and there are really no other constitutional methods to keep this person alive, the DO NOT STARVE HER TO DEATH. That's all.

I do not agree fully with either side (her parents or her "husband"), she should have her own legal advocate in our system... but she doesn't and the courts/government are shockingly ok with this and have sentenced her to death. By saying "lethally inject" her, I'm just saying: make it obvious to the country that the court HAS sentenced her to death.
