"House to issue subpoenas to keep Terry Schiavo alive"
The White House was cautious Thursday not to comment on any specific legislation. Yet in a statement, President Bush left little doubt where he stands.
The case of Terri Schiavo raises complex issues, he said. Yet in instances like this one, where there are serious questions and substantial doubts, our society, our laws and our courts should have a presumption in favor of life. Those who live at the mercy of others deserve our special care and concern.
"We will issue a subpoena which will require hospice administrators and attending physicians to preserve nutrition and hydration for Terri Schiavo to allow Congress to fully understand the procedures and practices that are currently keeping her alive," House Speaker Dennis Hastert, Majority Leader Tom DeLay, and Government Reform Committee Chairman Tom Davis said in a statement.

Didn't Dan Burton use that to keep Elian Gonzalez from being deported for a short time?
Thank God, God has his hand in this and will decide when he wants to call her home. Praise-Praise
AND WHY NOT SUPOENA THE NEXT VICTIM AT THE LOCAL ABORTION CLINIC
and the next etc.......
AMEN!
well, if she's required to testify before Congress and her life is, as we know, in jeopardy, then this might be the next move - barring her husband-in-name-only from any contact with her?
The sun is rising
You know this would be a good way to get her past the guards and out of that darn room not to mention out of the state of Florida. They should REALLY do it. Honor the subpoena and bring her to Washington!!!! Get her the heck out of Florida!!!!
info on congressional subpoenas for interested folks:
Here's an excerpt, then the link:
Federal courts give great deference to congressional subpoenas. If the investigative effort falls within the "legitimate legislative sphere," the congressional activity---including subpoenas---is protected by the absolute prohibition of the Speech or Debate Clause . . .

If I was in this state, I might prefer to not be stuck for a long time like this...I might just say let me go so I can go to heaven to see the Lord.
But, the president is right, we must presume life when there is no evidence the person wants the contrary, no matter what state the person will be in. It is immoral to presume death unless it is the wish of the person in a living will or something.
And frankly, based upon Terri's smile, she is not ready to go. She wants life.
Thank you, Mr. Enzi.
Me neither,lj. Now I can go to bed....shortly!!!!!!
Late breaking news!
Rats, I missed the first part of George Noory tonight.
The dims would go nuts
He's still taking calls...listen if you can.
I was wondering tonight if she is still at the hospice. With all the threats I am thinking what is to stop HINO from moving her somewhere else.I heard there are cops all over the place. It is easy to sneak out the back.
Drudge has been reporting on Terri all along...
I saw the CNN articles called it a "right to die" case... this is a "right to live" or "right to deny life" case, but "right to die"?
I feel pretty confident that Terri is still in the Woodside Hospice. We have FReepers on the scene.
