Oregon and Washington State used to be the major destination for fleeing Californians. Unfortunately, these beautiful states have become as politically liberal as California.

We're considering Oregon or Washington for our retirement anyway, because we have a lot of family up there. At least Oregon has no sales tax (yet), and Washington no state income tax (yet)!

I visited Oregon for the first time last year, it's beautiful there and just as expensive in some places but very affordable in the older or slightly out of town areas. Being as I missed the opportunity to buy a home here about 4 years ago I may pull up stakes and start over in Oregon.
