If true, it sounds like Damascus has been usurped by even worse nutjobs than Assad. Lebanon had better prepare for reprisals. Maybe that's why we have another carrier headed over there.

Is this source usually reliable? There's a certain amount of plausibility to the story.

1. The initial report has been debunked.

2. Wouldn't necessarily be good, if true. The report was that the coup was done by hardliners opposed to Lebanese pullout.

It's not a domino if harder liners take power which if this is accurate probably happened.

There was a separate report from a pro-Lebanse website with intimations of an uprising, but this sounds like a more detailed version of that. I find it interesting that this is the only news we seem to be hearing out of Syria right now.

Worth taking down as it has been debunked?

This is not good. Assad is one thing, but a military coup in protest of the withdrawal from Lebanon is worse.

Yes, the precise form of the reaction to the recent pressure on the Lebanon front is not so important, just that changes are underway.

Yes it is - an act of desperation by the hardliners won't endure for long. Although I doubt the rumors are true.

Not sure I agree with your analysis. When your enemy is in the midst of a civil war, that's a good thing. Now, if the Iranian freedom fighters would start making life difficult for the mad mullahs, we might be able to put a little more pressure on Kim Jong Il.

If Syria has a civil war it would not be a favored result. Ideally Assad would remain and would see the light. No muss, no fuss, Khadaffi style.

The key is to keep an on Israel in see if they go on high alert in the few days if this is true.
