"1) What kind of a planet gives supreme executive power through a mandate from the masses to a -- ahem -- fourteen year old GIRL???!?!! (There is no more insane form of human life on this planet than a pubescent female!)

2) How is it that the supreme emperor of a hundred thousand worlds can't find a decent dentist? Isn't dental care part of his insurance package? What's the point of ruling the galaxy if you can't get decent perks?"

1) A 14 year old in a galaxy far, far away may be the equivalent of a 40 year old here on Earth.

2) Many cultures here on Earth find beauty in staining, reshaping, removing teeth, or enhancing them with gold, jewels, etc.

Babylon 5 is the best Sci-Fi Universe.
Great choice on your Sci-Fi ping picture.

"Empire Strikes Back" was the best of the Star Wars films. "The Phantom Menace" was strictly marketed to children. But it was decent.

The last 40 minutes of "Attack of the Clones" saved the movie. Hayden Christiansen's performance was so "wooden". He showed little emotion when romantically speaking with Padme. But then again, Natalie Portman's performance wasn't so hot either. The actors were just reciting their lines without much emotion. The romance between Anakin and Padme was the most important part in the movie. The "wooden" performances of the actors killed the movie. The big light saber battle in the climax of the story was a great eye pleaser. Watching Yoda and hundreds of other Jedis take action made the film watchable.

The Episode 3 trailer looks cool. I am hoping George Lucas returns to form.

I find it odd that people expect the Star Wars characters to all have emotions exactly like us. Maybe the performances aren't wooden, but only reflect the actors' interpretation of a reserved, relatively asexual culture. Even here on Earth there are many non-western cultures with very different social interactions between men and women than we have here in the west. If you keep in mind that these are creatures that aren't western humans, you might see the movie in an entirely different way.

The Dutch member of Parliament that Morley Safer interviewed is HOT! She's like the Netherlands' version of Condi Rice!

Clones, IMHO, was scads worse than the disappointing but OK Menace. Christiansen was just as stiff as stone-faced Tobey Maguire in the final scene of the first Spider-Man. I didn't believe for a second that Portman and Christiansen were in love.

No one in his company dares say no to him. Heard through the computer graphics grapevine that he started firing people when they were making the first one with JarJar Binks. Several people tried to tell him JarJar stunk. They ended up working in the gaming industry, and somewhere, there is a warehouse bigger than the one they stored the Lost Ark in, filled to the roof with JarJar Binks Halloween costumes, board games, and action figures.

Lucas makes beautiful films. The imagery is wonderful. However, AFAIC, the series was strong through the rescue of Hans Solo in Episode 6. After that, it started collapsing on itself. The Ewoks were terrible. Lucas stated, "we dared to be cute." However, I thought it undercut the entire premise of the Empire being powerful when they were defeated by a bunch of teddy bears. In the last two episodes, I found the humor wooden and inappropriately placed. In one battle scene, which was supposed to be epic, they undercut the emotion by splicing in a supposedly humorous sequence in which C3P0 gets his head switched with a robot.

I thought the sequence about Boba Fett's father was good, but there are too many story threads, and none gets fully developed.

But Lucas'a creative muse died about the time that Duran Duran ruled the charts.

The name of that "muse" was Joseph Campbell. Without his advice, the plotlines have languished. The reason that the first trilogy was so brilliant was that it incorporated so many of the archetypes rooted in mythology. Now, all Lucas has got is a story everyone knows the ending to. He should have filmed the final 3 before the prequel 3...

Oh, and whoever was commenting on the "chemistry" of Natalie Portman, I'll agree so long as that chemical is formaldehyde. She was so wooden in those films that she would have caught fire if the spotlights had been placed any closer. My god, breeding her with Keanu Reeves could produce an army of Ents!

That phrase, "put in a barrel and fed through the bung hole."

My sister used to say that all the time. I never heard it since. I miss her.
