It's another new moon. Syzygy. The moon and sun are exerting gravitational force inline with the earth. More "tidal" deformation of the crust. Most big quakes occur +/- 1 day from an old or new moon.
Wrong. The pattern of big quakes is essentially random. It's easily calculable and not like it never occured to anyone to check.
