If mildly pro choice means "in cases of endangerment of the mothers life", I can live with that, but otherwise....no. The democrats are proabortion, the republicans prolife. If that ever changes, there is little differentiation of the parties which supercedes this singular factor. How can a person pursue liberty and happiness if his or her life which is endowed by our Creator is denied by men? Heaven help this country to understand this. Let's fight about budgets, taxes, foreign policies,.....but if we forget the fact that we are endowed by our Creator with unalienable rights of life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness, this constitutional republic will be a large footnote to history.
I'm just not a one issue voter, even when its the issue of abortion.
Isn't forcing a woman who was raped to give birth to the product of that act impedeing on her right to pursue happiness?
There are other issues you know. Would you vote for a pro-gay, anti-military, anti-american candidate that happened to be pro-life? If so, then you would vote for Harry Reid for President. One would hope that we are a big tent party to the extent that pro-life conservatives realize that not voting for the Republican nominee hands to Presidency back to the Michael Moore crowd. These are serious times, and Condi is the toughest potential President out there period. Sign that woman up!
Are you people NUTS???? Let's eat our young! Let's let Hillary's Fat A$$ just waltz into the White House because you're to upset with Condi. Got news for you all ...the President doesn't make the laws!!!!
AMEN BROTHER!
What if it means (1) restoring states' authority over abortion again, and (2) first working to convinct the public that a six-month fetus is a baby, then working to convince them that a five-month fetus is a baby, etc. and only pushing strongly for restrictions that have broad concensus support?
The left knows how to work slowly toward an end. It's time that conservatives started using the same techniques.
I agree. Is it wrong to be a SINGLE issue voter on abortion? I submit that once the lines of demarcation are blurred on this one issue, it will be "Katie bar the door" on all of the others.
If we as a party or a movement can justify compromise on the issue of the sanctity of life and the constitutional God-given right thereof, then we will have revealed that the conservative movement no longer even exists and will have no qualms about selling other principles to the highest bidder or the latest Gallup poll.
When the foundation is removed, the whole edifice crumbles.
I can remember when protecting the American border, abolishing the Department of Education (in order to keep education at the local level and away from the bureaucrats) and cutting entitlement programs were conservative positions. Now they are all considered extreme, intolerant and even "un-Christian" (in the words of my own Republican governor who wants to extend entitlements as "rights" to illegals). We have already become the party of compassionate (re: big government) conservatism. Remove the right to life and other moral issues and there isnt much else to separate us from the opposition. Maybe we could just call off elections all together and agree to share power and swap Presidents and leadership positions every four years.
