If her position on abortion costs her 2% of the vote, she loses.

Not if she picks up the right leaning Democrats.

That's not an option--the Constitution Party will have a candidate in '08, so it WILL be possible to find a TRUE believer in constitutional governmnet & a strongly pro-life candidate as well.

I lost count of how many years I've heard that line

You're wasting your breath on the ultramontaine Leninists. They would rather forfeit the game than win if they don't get to make the rules. They THINK that Reagan played their ballgame, when in fact Reagan found a way to bring all factions of the party together under his leadership.

People who insist on being exclusionary are no friends of the conservative movement. After all, politics is about addition.

So you're going to drive away the pro-life base of the GOP.

Okey-dokey...

You know exactly what I mean; and if it looks like she can win the nomination, you and I both know there will be a "whispering campaign" in the GOP.

Do they? I thought she did not believe the government should ban abortion. In other words, she would protect the practice, not just allow extreme-case exceptions.

I got the idea you didn't know the president's view on abortion because someone said this:

Did you vote for President Bush? Condi's views mirror his.

And you said this: No they don't.

So you're wrong.

Why did you post that?

Bush is not pro-choice (I loathe that term). Who said he was?

Condi is though.

Therefore unlike Bush, she will gather no traction in your state or mine. This Condi worship is but a pipedream that moderates love to smoke.

These exceptions you allude to are not what Rice bases her views on. They are the fine points reasonable pro-life folks like W and myself could quibble on.

I for one think that would be a fine amendment considering we are already 40 million dead babies down the road. Life of the mother is almost unheard of these days...according to my wife's OB-GYN.

But, what does that have to do with Condi Rice being viable? Nothing.

I agree w/ you--I don't see any chance of a Republican being elected in '08, unless it's the God-awful McCain..

"'Lose the pro-lifers, you have no chance of being elected - period.

It may be hard for some here to accept, but a GOP pro-abortion candidate simply cannot be elected President today'

If that is true of the Presidency, then it stands to reason that it is even more true of a Primary. For that reason, I'm not really concerned. Condi will temper her views (or provide some "clarification") and win the primary. Or she won't and lose.
"

That is about the best comment I've seen on this thread. All of this "Would you rather vote for a mildly pro-choice Condi or let Hillary win?" is irrelevant. Either Condi will clarify her "mildly pro-choice" to something more acceptable, or she will not win the primary in the first place - if she decides to run at all.

Like I've said earlier, Bush's views to me sound like he is pro-life with some pretty rare exceptions. If Condi has those same views then she shouldn't be saying she is "mildly pro-choice". That just makes me cringe and brings congnintations of "Keep abortion save, legal, and rare" from the triangulating Clintonistas.

Hmmm ~ I asked for names, addresses, evidence, witnesses.

Your response is to call me names (and we all know who starts doing that first, eh?).

Did you ever stop to think you might well be in the wrong forum?

The cultural pendulum here has swung center. Like we are still in election mode.

If we do this, we can win this.

Only 60 seats.

It goes on and on. One day we will shoot the elephant and all be riding asses and just get it over with.

I have one word: Whigs.
