REPORT OF LOW FLYING PLANE TRIGGERS MASSIVE SEARCH

POSTED: 8:51 am EST March 28, 2005

EASTON, Conn. -- A report of a low-flying plane headed toward the Saugatuck Reservoir triggered a 12-hour search that drew more than 60 police officers and helicopters from Connecticut and New York.

No plane was found Saturday, though officials did pick up a distress signal coming from a point about 12 miles north of Bridgeport.

"We have no idea what it was," said Easton Police Chief Jack Solomon. "It could have been something on a hiker's jacket like a transponder emitting a signal. All we know is that it lasted for hours."

The search started around noon Saturday when two local residents informed Easton police that they saw a small white plane with green markings flying very low.

"They were worried because it was flying so low and heading for the woods that it was in distress," Solomon said. "Then we got word from a New York airport tower that they were picking up a distress signal too."

Solomon notified state police and surrounding departments, including Fairfield, Redding, Monroe and Trumbull.

The police departments in Fairfield and Westchester County both sent helicopters, but searches in the woods and from the air turned up nothing.

I'm with you JP. Growing up in Wyoming we would have shoveled you know what for minimum wage. The problem wasn't the illegal mexicans so much as it was the farmers who would hire these immigrants for the same wage without regard to long hours, breaks or benifits.
These immigrants worked without complaining about being taken advantage of. This made them very desirable to hire over us Americans. We refused to be taken advantage thus unemployed from the fields.
