From pornography to 'Desperate Housewives' women being degraded has an entertainment value far greater than men being degraded.
People like Martha Stewart and Hillary Clinton a lot more once they were 'broken,' ice queens melted into puddles of vulnerability.
Hillary was America's first lady, photographed smiling in her designer dresses as she oversaw table settings and placements for state dinners, even though she did not care about such domestic piffle and was instead really manuvering to take over huge chunks of domestic policy.
Martha was the first lady of gold leaf designer lifestyle nesting, even though her uber-nest was so scary that her husband flew the coop. Though she was the ulitmate professional homemaker and nurturer, she left her daughter off the list of the things she would miss in jail.
Obviously, many men are uncomfortable with successful women, so when these women are brushed back, alpha men can take comfort in knowing that the alphettes are not threateningly all powerful and that they had better soften those sharp edges.
And what about Condi, who's now being touted for the Republican ticket in 2008? Perhaps she does not need to play the victim to make people feel better about her power because she was never seen as pushing people around and bending them to her will.
She always seems subserviant to President Bush and VP Dick Cheney, a willing handmaiden for their bellicose bidding.

It is killing Modo to see how well received Condi is.
They've always parroted the line Republicans just couldn't handle strong women. No, reality is that Republicans adore strong women.
Republicans and Americans in general don't like shrews that overstep their authority and screech when they don't get their way. Women do NOT like Hillary. I don't like Hillary. Some women may vote for Hillary but make no mistake they have any affection for her.
Condi is strong, unassuming, intelligent, accomplished, has a sense of humor, gracious, she achieved her own status on the basis of her own hard work rather than latching onto a man's name to become Senator....
It is Condi's example women should emulate. It is the First Lady's example we should emulate. Why would women wish to end up embittered, shrill, with a chip on their shoulders like Hill, MoDo and Martha?
So she's subservient because she's not a strident harpy like Hillary?

It will be interesting to see what tack Dowd takes next since she will be one of the primary columnists doing Hillary's handiwork for '08..

Please don't excerpt NY Times articles. They don't care if we publish them in full.
Dowd has to find some way to insult Condi in every column so as to keep promoting Hillary in '08, although in a head to head matchup or with Condi as a veep--Hills would get crushed.

It's obvious Hill is terrified of Condi, I'm enjoying feeding her fear. MoDo and others like her are doing Hill's will by unleashing the claws. They'll be doing so continuously unless it becomes apparent Condi won't run.
The trouble is that Condi has not invited this cattiness. Women are going to be turned off by the jealousy on their part. Makes them appear shrewish and desperate; distinct turnoffs.
