Ukraine's Yushchenko says dead minister 'sentenced himself'

KIEV - Ukraine President Viktor Yushchenko said Friday that a former interior minister who had been implicated in the murder of an opposition journalist and was found dead of an apparent suicide had "sentenced himself."

"Everyone has a choice," Yushchenko was quoted as saying by the Interfax news agency.

"Either cooperation with the tribunal, the prosecutor, give testimony... defend your rights and honor. There is a second possibility -- sentence yourself," he said.

Yushchenko spoke after former interior minister Yury Kravchenko was found dead at his elite country house outside Kiev hours before he was due to be questioned over the notorious 2000 slaying of reporter Georgy Gongadze.

If you comparing Georgia and Uzbekistan you showing your ignorance or just bad will…

Why? In Georgia the results of elections are above 97% If you believe that it is democracy, I have a bridge for you to sell. And Uzbekistan is a faithful friend of the West.

If this guy below was he main rival then this results weren’t suprising at all. Saakashvili leader of revolution supported by Zhvania’s party was definitely the favorite. Russians aren’t popular in this country and their influence for local society was very small. In future elections his advantage (if he won, of course) for sure wont be so big. Walesa also won easily his presidency (75%) but he has much stronger rival, famous populist Stanislaw Tyminski which didn’t had history in previous regime like Teimuraz Shashiashvili.

Teimuraz Shashiashvili
presidential candidate nominated by the initiative group;
born on 1 April 1951; engineer; non-party; former governor of the Imereti region. He resigned from the governor’s post after Shevardnadze’s resignation. In case of presidency Teimuraz Shashiashvili intends to liberalize tax code..

And Uzbekistan is a faithful friend of the West.

Definitely I don’t agree with this statement. Although Uzbekistan allowed Americans to set a military base there for big cash but now their authoritarian president Islam Karimov regret that he made this decision. (Ukrainian fears) If I remember correctly he threw away Soros from Uzbekistan and he generally don’t like similar western foundations. In Uzbekistan is fatal place to invest money and simply rarely somebody do it. There is no privatizations even in natural gas industry, where western capital would like to be. Because of lack of cash for investments Uzbeks exporting only a bit of gas (a bit even to Poland). IMF also withdrew their agency from this country because of lack of cooperation. Recently British diplomat has to go to Uzbekistan but before journey he said that he also want to talk about democracy in Uzbekistan. Uzbek side called away this meeting. I don’t know what thing allow you to think about Karimov as about so called western friend. Uzbekistan is a hole.

The tax accusations were not false and by the way, Yukos vp and the security chief are on trial for running a murder ring, seems that was the easiest way to get rid of the competition.

As for Yushchenko, he says one thing, but his very powerful, oligarch VP says 3,000. Whom to believe? Since she provided most of the backing that made Yushchenko viable (and a lot of the money) that he needed.

You say kicking out Soros is a bad thing? Man, you're on the wrong board. DU is down the street. You need to go read some of the articles I've posted about the "democratic" EU constitution. Goes rather into detail on your precious EU and the fascist state it's creating (oh and it's a British source with other european anti-fascist groups adding in).

Yup and Yushchenko's quick "confirmation" that it's suicide says a lot too.

I wonder if he sentenced himself the same way that Rommel did.

Hay, where's Ukie and the rest of that bunch? Since the elections and the NWO victory, these "freepers" of one political dimension have all disappeared. Hmmm. Trolls you say? Nah, couldn't possibly be, could it?

The tax accusations were and are absolutely false, which fact was confirmed by Polish specialists whom I’m able to believe much more than you.

As for Yushchenko, he says one thing, but his very powerful, oligarch VP says 3,000. Whom to believe? Since she provided most of the backing that made Yushchenko viable (and a lot of the money) that he needed.

Yushchenko is president and he has real power in Ukraine. Tymoshenko accepted his position.

Thanks for your invitation to DU but I prefer FR especially that I can clean this propaganda made by such Putin’s trolls like you. Soros in democratic countries is an virus but in totalitarian countries like Uzbekistan he is very useful. And if you think that Soros is ultimate evil in this world that means only that you are narrow-minded or your agenda didn't allowed you to think otherwise. We both know that Putin don’t like Soros.

Cheers from Poland buhaha

Hay EU troll bait, Poland? Where is that? Is that one of those slave states of the great EU Fascist empire? Yup, it sure is. Enjoy your Franco-Germanic domination troll. But you must feel proud to have such a progressive Yushchenko riding your leg to join you in slavery to the EU.

I particularly love the fact that the EU Constitution doesn't allow for Habeas Corpus and the Loyalty Clause is a hoot too. But having been a soviet slave I can see why it's so easy for you to become an EU slave. Your mentality didn't evolve.

Here are some articles for you to read and learn, though I doubt you're capable of shedding the slave mentality, your posts sure prove otherwise.

The main agenda I have is to keep EU socialist sleezestaks like yourself from spreading the EU progressive lies that you and your other two stooges are so good at.

Oh and Soros isn't liked in a lot of nations. That he broke the bank of England, helped destroy the Indonesian economy. Set up a dictator in Georgia, got his hands into Oligarch money in Russia, interfered in elections in Bulgaria, Romania, Ukraine, Belarus and now Armenia and of course tried to oust Bush and you make excuses for him, shows just how much of a EU pungent you really are.

There is a slight problem with "sentance yourself" ergo suicide since there were two bullets found in the body... The guy couldn't really have shot himself in the head two times to commit suicide thats a bit unlikely.

http://www.reuters.com/newsArticle.jhtml?type=topNews&storyID=7816545

"The head of Ukraine's SBU security service, Oleksander Turchinov, said Kravchenko had failed to kill himself with an initial shot and had then fired a second time to the temple.

The handwritten note found on the victim, he said, confirmed the theory of suicide."

2 bullets to the temple ... is a suicide... oh yeah right
