In 2002, the FEC exempted the Internet by a 4-2 vote, but U.S. District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly last fall overturned that decision. "The commission's exclusion of Internet communications from the coordinated communications regulation severely undermines" the campaign finance law's purposes, Kollar-Kotelly wrote. This judge is a pain in the ass:

Let's take out this thread again to refresh everyone's memory.
Notice in reviewing the thread, many of us tried making calls and emails about the political activism and money collections occuring OUTSIDE of the USA.
Notice also how ignored we were.

Here are my thoughts on the subject.
I can tell you that I think we're going to end up seeing people march on courthouse steps much like what happened recently in Chechnenna as a result of rulings like this.
It's becoming very obvious that the men and women seem to be interested in turning this nation into a third world country than in upholding and interpeting the Constitution the way it's supposed to be read.,p>My reccomendation for a book in relation to this nonsense:F. Lee Levin's "Men in Black". Rush Limbaugh interviewed him for his newsletter and had him on his show for a full hour.
Regards.

Internet is beyond national. National laws would be difficult to enforce internationally.

Stupid Congress. These old bastards have no idea how technology works. The servers that host the blogs will just move outside the jurisdiction of the US Congress. In other words, Congress will FORCE the blogs to outsource.

We have made mis-steps in the past. Prohibition comes to mind. Could be that enforcing CFR to the extreme letter of the law--in all its unconstitutional absurdity--could be the straw that will break its back. It will prove unenforcible, and will allow for another Supreme Court challenge. The other option is to use the new media to force the issue, just like with illegal immigration, judicial nominee obstruction, Rathergate, etc. The final solution is to sweep in a new congress in 2006. Defeat the rinos at the primary level.

It sounds to me it would collapse under the weight of its complexity. How is the FEC going to chase all those Internet users? They are not even able to stamp out Demo'rat violations now.

Thank you John McCain for your service to this country. You've come home a war hero with the mindset of a totalitarian dictator. Seems we're all gonna get what you got one of these days. Just keep going the way you're going and we'll all be in chains.

Bradley Smith says that the freewheeling days of political blogging and online punditry are over. In just a few months, he warns, bloggers and news organizations could risk the wrath of the federal government if they improperly link to a campaign's Web site. Even forwarding a political candidate's press release to a mailing list, depending on the details, could be punished by fines.
And how does Bradley Smith expect to overturn the First Amendment in just a few months?
I'm curious!
