What is the most awesomely bad love song ever? The one that makes you cringe when you hear it, but you just can't turn it off. What love song makes you shake your head, roll your eyes, laugh, gag, shed a tear, or just punch something because it's so horrendously great that you love to hate it. Or is it vice versa? VH1 is counting down the 40 Most Awesomely Bad Love Songs....The kind of songs that might end a relationship rather than enhance it. You get the drift.

Join us as we count down and celebrate fantastically cheesy lyrics, the best and worst metaphors, awkward and confusing themes, and of course, those strange, misguided flukes from our favorite artists, while our team of experts help explain why we've deemed these songs so (un)worthy. We've been covering our ears, shutting off the radio, and running from the room screaming for too long. It's time to ban these songs to our awesomely bad Hall of F(Sh)ame!

I think that and the "cake out in the rain" song are my top two. Glad I could help out!

Oh, I loved that song, "Julie"......and for that matter "I Think I Love You". Guess you had to be a teenage girl with stars in her eyes to appreciate those songs!

What a funny era, when you think about it...I loved those songs, but also listened to anything and everything Jim Morrison and the Doors, Led Zepplin, and others hardcore rockers put out there....LOL

Has anyone mentioned "Song Sung Blue"? Ugh.

Neil Diamond's a great songwriter, but that was his career lowpoint.

I am surprised how many good songs are in this list.

Maybe a little off topic but does anyone remember "Silence is Golden" by the Searchers? I have the version by the Tremeloes but the Searchers did a better job.

"Honey".

Wow: man, that is hard to beat for its utter you-just-wanna-tear-yer-own-ears-off awfulness. Memories of that song playing on the transistor radio under my pillow back in '68 make me wish I could go back in time to those wonderous days of my callow youth, and find the man who penned that sap-laden swill and throw him headfirst off the Tallahatchee Bridge. Which reminds me of another awful love song from the same year....

I once knew a girl who absolutely loved that song (someone left the cake out in the rain).

She was pretty weird.

I have had people tell me the Searchers never did "Silence is Golden", but I am certain I have heard it.

I think a "mix" or a "loop" of "cake out in the rain" and "having my baby" would be way cool. I can see it growing, are you happy knowing that I'll never have that recipe again... OH NO!

Sully I think your sister and I must be about the same age, and I'm guessing Lisa and I are too. So... I had to go and remember Bobby Sherman it seems he's a policeman now.

"Claire" by Gilbert O' Sullivan

Are you forgetting "Alone Again, Naturally" by the same purported artist? A song so excruciatingly horrible that North Korean intelligence agents could use it to permanently cripple dissidents.

I veto your vote... I love that song... and most others by the Swedish group... that was the country's second leading export next to Volvo at one time.

I agree, I love ABBA and enjoy listening to many of the songs people are posting here. But in the fun of it I'll not infringe upon others rights to make fun of the 70's. After all, it's just screaming to be made fun of.

There are some real pukers here, like that "Having My Baby".
