What is the most awesomely bad love song ever? The one that makes you cringe when you hear it, but you just can't turn it off. What love song makes you shake your head, roll your eyes, laugh, gag, shed a tear, or just punch something because it's so horrendously great that you love to hate it. Or is it vice versa? VH1 is counting down the 40 Most Awesomely Bad Love Songs....The kind of songs that might end a relationship rather than enhance it. You get the drift.

Join us as we count down and celebrate fantastically cheesy lyrics, the best and worst metaphors, awkward and confusing themes, and of course, those strange, misguided flukes from our favorite artists, while our team of experts help explain why we've deemed these songs so (un)worthy. We've been covering our ears, shutting off the radio, and running from the room screaming for too long. It's time to ban these songs to our awesomely bad Hall of F(Sh)ame!

I'm leaving the thread now but you all forgot two of the VERY worst of the worst
Mac Arthur Park by Richard Harris
I'll Always Love You-Whitney Houston.

Beat those two for pure treacle

Hello,

In college, a friend really thought that they said "400 children..." instead of 4 hungry children. Still cracks me up, it was so funny.

Glad to be here, MOgirl

One wonders about that man.

He could definitely be twisted, that's for sure.

The song "Joe's Garage" is one of my all time favorites though.

I believe the groups name was Ambrosa

Hmm. I don't know about that one. I'm sure there have been a lot of "Woolly Bully" remakes. But I remember Eddie and the Hot Rod's version because it was so energetic. I think it was on their first album, called "Teenage Depression."

I'm leaving now but I leave you with Elton John's Don't Let The son Go Down On Me, compliments of someone that wanted me to never ever forget them. To this day, I always remember them when I hear the song. If that person is lurking. Thank youy

Now ya see -- Frankie Valli and the old Four Seasons were great...

Freddie Mercury -- too "pink" for me.

Bobby Vinton? ("She wore blooooooue...velvet...") crooner for the lay-deees.

Billy Joel/McLean? Gotta tell ya -- didn't mind them at their best...

At Joel's worst (the last 20 years) he's definitely annoying.

I liked Little Red Riding Hood too, a cool song.

And House of the Rising Son. By Hoyt Axton. I used to hear him sing it at the Troubadour on Santa Monica Blvd in Hollywood. Great song, unless sung by Joan Baez...

I can't believe nobody has mentioned Ode to Billy Joe. I suppose to some people that was a good song, but it used to make me retch.

Running from the law songs. How about -

"I shot the sheriff
But I did not shoot the depyouty"

Can't remember the rest of the lines, mercifully.

Also ANYTHING by Barbra Streisand. She could take the world's best song and make it sappy.

"Baby, Baby Don't Get Hooked On Me - Mac Davis (eerrrppp!)"

BUT...There was that stanza:

"Girl you're getting that look in your eye...And it's warm where you're touching me...I can't take no clingin' vine"

Hey Mac -- maybe you're connecting the wrong dots, pal.

Moon River is a wonderful song. So okay, they overplayed it, but still...

Another side note, but the season of American Idol that just started has excellent singers and a black guy with long braids (turns out he's a music teacher--they raised the age limit a bit), sang none other than "Moon River". He did a very neat version of it and Paula said she hopes he records it.
