Terri Schiavo's Alma Mater Prays for Her

WARMINSTER, Pa. (AP) - It's been more than two decades since Terri Schiavo walked the halls of Archbishop Wood High School as a student, and few teachers remain who remember the shy girl at the center of the nation's most celebrated right-to-die case.
And yet, few days go by when someone doesn't mention her name.
"We pray every day for her," said Margaret Fitzgibbons, a physical education teacher.
More than 1,200 students and teachers at the Roman Catholic school celebrated a special mass for Schiavo before classes Monday morning, four days before doctors are scheduled to remove a feeding tube that has been keeping her alive.
Bishop Joseph McFadden asked the students to pray that the tube will remain in place and told them it would be against Catholic teaching to allow Schiavo to die.
"As a Christian community, we must pray that all will come to recognize God as the sole proprietor of life and that he alone has the right to call us home to his kingdom in his own time," McFadden said.
Schiavo, 41, collapsed in Florida in 1990 and suffered brain damage that has left her in what some doctors say is a persistent vegetative state.
Her husband has been fighting for years for permission to remove Schiavo's feeding tube, saying his wife had told him she wouldn't want to be kept alive in such a state. Schiavo's parents dispute that her condition is hopeless. They say she still interacts with them and tries to speak.
Judges have favored Schiavo's husband, and a court order preventing the feeding tube from being removed expires Friday.
There is little open debate over the matter at Archbishop Wood, where Schiavo graduated in 1981.
Ian Carr, 17, a member of the school's anti-abortion club, said teachers frequently mention Schiavo in class and ask students to pray that her husband will have a change of heart.
A glass case in the school's lobby contains information about her case.
McFadden used unequivocal terms Monday to describe Schiavo's situation. He condemned Florida judges for rulings that he said were akin to deciding that Schiavo "should be put to death," and likened her case to the treatment of Jews by Nazi Germany.
"The carnage and loss of life in the Holocaust began when no one challenged the starving of Jews in those death camps in Auschwitz and Dachau," he said. "How can anyone sit back and allow a woman to be put to death simply because she cannot feed herself? How can we as a Catholic people not be outraged at the prospect that someone other that God has the authority to snuff out someone's life?"
Cardinal Justin Rigali asked priests at all 275 parishes in the Philadelphia Archdiocese to include prayers for Schiavo in their Sunday masses. Schiavo grew up in Huntingdon Valley, a Philadelphia suburb.

Terri's fight involves Florida authorities and the Florida courts and Rush is in trouble with some Florida authorities at the moment. That may or may not be the reason for the difference in the way in which he has handled the two stories. However, it is a fact that his personal situation is more precarious NOW than it was then.

ABOUT TIME!!!!!!!!!!] and the numerous ongoing violations of Florida law in the case which exist to protect the rights of the state’s disabled."
Off to call Jeb's office now and NOTE this request from Mr. Hires of the Justice Coalition to take Terri into custody via the Florida Department of Law Enforcement! Going to back up this request!
Now THAT's a statement for the religious side!!!!

Getting frustrated, Scoop ?
I am most familiar with Arch Bishop Wood being part of the Philadelphia Archdiocese where I also attended highschool. Our sports teams played their's and I have cousins and acquaintances who have graduated from Archbishop Wood. Terri could well have been the girl who sat next to me in her cute little Catholic School uniform in Algebra class, so for me this case hits very close to home.
Also, her old parish, OUR LADY OF GOOD COUNCIL, where some of my old school chums live, have also said special masses for Terri.

Oh, If you say you. I don't think I am missing much at all. I have followed the connections back and forth and seen who stood to profit from this. I have been following this from the first moment it appeared on Free Republic. There is very little you can say that has not been said about this case.
I was discussing Terri's situation with other posters BEFORE you joined Free Republic (at least under your current screenname).
The big picture is that we must save Terri from those with ulterior motives, and we must get our representatives, legislators, to make corrections in the wording of the laws, which are being used to murder Americans who have a major debilitation and scam money from the government.
Pretty much the picture, doncha think?
