New York Suburb Has First Case of Rare STD

Sat Feb 26, 6:29 PM ET Health - AP

MINEOLA, N.Y. - A Nassau County man has been diagnosed with a rare sexually transmitted disease, the first case in the county and one of seven around the country.

The Nassau County Department of Health has confirmed that the man has Lymphogranuloma Venereum, a form of chlamydia. The disease's symptoms can be serious — rectal pain and bleeding, and sores. The disease can also increase the risk of HIV (news - web sites) transmission.

Two men in New York City were diagnosed in early February with the disease, which can be treated with antibiotics if caught early. All three men are HIV positive, and had multiple partners among other men. Three cases have been identified in San Francisco, and one in Atlanta. Unprotected anal intercourse is the key risk factor for the spread of LGV, which is difficult to diagnose.

In the past two decades LGV has been uncommon in industrialized nations and primarily has been found in the tropics.

But in November, the National Institute for Public Health in the Netherlands said 92 cases of LGV among gay and bisexual men had been reported there over the preceding year, compared to the usual two or three cases a year. Officials said cases also have been found in the United Kingdom.

The LGV cases come at the same time that another New York City man was diagnosed with a case of highly drug-resistant HIV.

Officials in Nassau and Suffolk counties were planning to hold a meeting on Monday to discuss the potential public health threat of LGV as well as the resurgence of high-risk sexual behavior.

This is a good example of evolution at work.

Considering homosexuals can't produce children and are an intrinsically disordered genetic dead end I can only assume you speak of the evolution of various 'bugs' that homosexuals through depraved activities allow to take a survivable foothold in society.

I don't think it is so much evolution of the 'bugs' than I think it is simply devolution of the disordered hosts (risky behavior and self gratifying short sighted stupidity) that accentuates and accelerates rare 'bug' occurrences by providing filthy environments (e.g. colon penetration) that culture incubate and easily transmit that which should be rare; e.g. all the diseases etcetera that rear their ugly heads during carnage of war or natural disaster...

The rare 'bug' colonies require petrie dishes and homosexuals sure are providing them...The 'experiment' is decimating homosexuals quicker than heterosexuals -survival of the fittest?

There is no cure for the common cold. In strong patients, it eventually is killed by the body's immune system.

In weak patients, though, the cold can develop into pneumonia or any of a host of other opportunistic infections. Some of those are killers.

Patients who have AIDS don't die of AIDS per se; they die of opportunistic infections which move in and set up shop due to the body's weakened immune system.

Transmitting HIV requires fairly intimate body fluid-to-body fluid contact. Transmitting the common cold requires merely breathing air containing airborne virii.

While HIV positive persons who have sex can reasonably be charged with assault with a deadly weapon, be careful what you ask for when you loudly demand indefinite house arrest for HIV carriers...

Aren't those symptoms of being queer in general?

I don't think anyone is suggesting "house arrest for HIV carriers" -I definitely did not -although, if you are interested, I would suggest 'carriers' that continue transmitting diseases etcetera be charged prosecuted for criminal activity.

I would suggest that the "house arrest" was but a straw man argument not given life to that you apparently attempt to resuscitate? The horse is dead -stop beating it.

I'm not sure who did call for quarantining HIV carriers, but just what is a quarantine but house arrest?

Sure - look at my post Number 43.

I believe that people ought to be careful when they want to restrict liberty, for it often comes back to bite one in the nether regions.
