I'm not totally convinced. DV happens between ex boyfriends and ex girlfriends, regardless of pregnancy, every day.

Are you saying that it was not practical to find out more about the man that who would presumably become the step-father of her child? To not even have him meet the child before he impregnated her? What happened to introducing the new man to the family before having him produce new offspring in the family? I am not saying that it is impossible to be mis-lead by such a character, but the fact that he had not even met the child (a point which is in one of the news articles) suggests maybe that not enough discretion was used in determining if he was a safe enough person to become the boy's new daddy.
