Seems to me she found the error of her ways because she rejected him. Her crime is she sinned by having sex outside of marriage which produced a child which she chose to have. And for that she deserved to be murdered?

He reflected upon the circumstances of that murder and the bad things that sometimes happen to good people who don't make the right choices.
