Giving Hollywood the [PURPLE] finger: We need YOUR sign ideas for our rally at the Academy Awards!
"Shut Up, and ACT!" Hollywood conservatives plan "Rally for Responsibility" at Academy Awards (2/27) ^ | February 22, 2005 | RonDog, rantblogger [and YOU!]

Calling all creative FReepers (and lurkers)!
The L.A. Chapter needs YOUR advice.

As many of you know by know, the Hollywood Resistance Force
(also known as the L.A. Chapter of the Free Republic Network)
is planning a "Rally For Responsibility" outside this year's Academy Awards.

FReeper rantblogger has suggested that we bring GIANT foam hands to the rally,
with the index finger painted PURPLE...

...to show OUR solidarity with the brave Iraqi voters,
and to remind the leftists in Hollywood that if they had THEIR way,
Iraq would not now be free.

How many Oscars did 'The Color Purple' win so many years ago? Perhaps something like..."The Color Purple - Wins Again".

Others could say the "Iraq 1, Hollywood 0"

And..."One For all, and All For One" (The Three Musketeers - great flick!)

From www.imdb.com:
The Color Purple (1985)

-- snip --

  • Producers Steven Spielberg and Kathleen Kennedy cast Margaret Avery after Tina Turner turned it down.

  • Director Trademark: [Steven Spielberg] [father] Nettie's father

  • Author Alice Walker was uneasy about Steven Spielberg's appointment to direct the film; however, she was confident in a then-unknown Whoopi Goldberg after seeing her San Francisco stand-up routine in which she portrayed many different characters.

  • Oprah Winfrey was at a "fat farm" to lose weight when she learned she got the part of Sophia. She had to leave immediately, as the role required her to be heavy.

  • A film adaptation of Alice Walker's novel was so highly anticipated, auditions for the film had to be held under the code "Moon Song".

  • Steven Spielberg refused to let executive producers Jon Peters and Peter Guber visit the set

  • The first film by Steven Spielberg to not feature John Williams's music score.

  • Jointly holds the record (with The Turning Point (1977)) for the film with most Oscar nominations without a single win (11).

  • Tina Turner was offered the role of Shug, but turned it down.

  • Whoopi Goldberg and Oprah Winfrey nominated for their film debuts...

You are a FReeper; so BY DEFINITION you are creative!
FReep-ito, ergo sum, as it were. ;o)
As for getting you out here...
...our current FReep budget is currently rather limited...
...but if you FReep-mail me a snail mail address, I will personally MAIL you your very own "PURPLE FINGER" foam hand. :)

What do you think about "The FINGER Purple" ?
That COULD be the lead to the AP wire service story about the pre-Oscar festivities, eh?
This year's Oscars are scheduled to otherwise be VERY boring, I hear...
...so some enterprising reporter may JUMP on this "purple finger" angle, right?

So, what would be the best category for "The FINGER Purple" to be nominated for?
"Best Supporting FINGER" -- or?
See also, from www1.voanews.com:
...More than twenty Academy Awards will be presented on Sunday, in addition to acting and directing. The best documentary or true story will be honored. The people who designed the best costumes, makeup and special effects will receive awards. So will the people who wrote the best screenplay and did the best film and sound editing.

Three movies are competing for the best animated feature film of last year...

...Oscars also are awarded for the best music in movies and the best song. Five songs are nominated as best original song...
