Giving Hollywood the [PURPLE] finger: We need YOUR sign ideas for our rally at the Academy Awards!

Also, as I posted previously, I am not advocating government censorship, or even necessarily free market retaliation against the films created by these Hollywood leftists.
But I **do** believe that "to whom much is given, much is required."
See, for example, the message that I promoted at a PREVIOUS Oscar FReep:

LA SLIMES' NOTABLE OSCAR QUOTABLES --
NICOLE KIDMAN ON ONE SIDE... AND FR'S "RONDOG" ON THE OTHER!

LEFT ANGELES SLIMES
Posted on 03/24/2003 1:59:50 PM PST by AnnaZ

So I finally start going through, page by page, the Oscar coverage in today's Slimes (that's right... still reading  it so that you don't have to). And then I almost had a heart attack.

The "E"/"Calendar Part 1" Section is dedicated to Oscar coverage, E1 starting it all off with a big pic of Best Actor winner Adrien Brody smooching presenter Halle Berry and the beginning of the story.

Following it in to E2 and E3, there are a bunch of huge picture of various winners from the night, the top of each page prefaced with a huge bold quote.

On the left side (heh, heh) is one quote:

"Why do you come to the Academy Awards when the world is in such turmoil?
Because art is important."

Nicole Kidman, accepting the best actress award

On the right side (in more ways than one ;^) is another quote:

"If John Wayne were here, he'd be doing what we're doing.
He'd be supporting the troops."

Ron Smith, demonstrator at Hollywood and Highland

What Would Elvis Do???

What Would Elvis Do???
LOL!
Elvis was my SECOND choice for a sign...
We KNOW what Elvis did, from www.top40-charts.com:

ELVIS JOINS THE US ARMY

By the end of 1957, Elvis Presley was the unchallenged King of Rock'n'Roll. With nine US chart-topping hits behind him achieved in less than two years, he was the hottest item on any menu, but that very fact may have strongly influenced the US Government in their insistence that Presley should be drafted for national service in the US Army...

Our basic message can be summarized as follows, from an earlier thread:

Let Hollywood know that with Freedom of Speech
comes RESPONSIBILITY.

The 9/11 attack on America was one of the most critical events in our nation's history.

YESTERDAY'S Hollywood reacted to World War II, with CLASSIC movies like "Casablanca" and "The Sands of Iwo Jima,"
Where are the modern-day counterparts to these powerful movies?

The only film about the War on Terror currently in widespread theatrical release was Michael Moore's profoundly anti-American "Fahrenheit 9/11."

Surely Hollywood can, and MUST do a better job of addressing the most profound issues of our day.

However, I also suggested on Feb. 12, (your original post about FReeping the Oscars) that idea for the "purple finger."

I never heard if you liked it or not...

Ooops!
Sorry, CitizenM. :(
There have been SO MANY good FReep ideas -- posted here on MULTIPLE threads, and I often forget whom to thank for what, so:
THANK YOU for your "PURPLE FINGER" idea, CitizenM!

Thanks for the links, null and void!
I pinged myself to the OTHER time that you posted them, but forgot to go back and get them.
They make a PERFECT complement to this thread -- giving some HISTORICAL background to this idea.

So you want the white foam hand and purple finger snipped and then placed into the "Color Purple" pic.

But where?

In the top left or at the bottom, replacing the woman in the rocking chair or ???? .....

I was originaly thinking that we should put a giant "purple finger" in her LAP...
...but MOST people will not even remember that movie poster (from 1985!)
So perhaps we can add a giant "purple finger" to THIS guy:

...as originally suggested by Yossarian.

This would also tie in the "missing PASSION" angle. :o)

Iraq I, Hollywood O says it all. If you could incorporate it with the picture of the Iraq woman it would be great . Maybe several larger signs with the woman plus the slogan, and then the Iraq I---Hollywood O, on the sponge hands. I do like the purple colored finger. Its double meaning won't be lost on these folks. Maybe this one theme would be more effective than injecting others. Most of these actors will have to stretch to grasp even one idea that isn't self involved. Best not to completely overload their brain capacity. I also like the idea of boots on the ground. Maybe military boots on the palm of the purple fingered hand, along with USA/ and or/ the American flag.

Okay, then.

My computer time may be limited the next few days. My
Dad's coming up later today and will be here until Saturday
late.

I may have time in there sometime to work on it hopefully.

Thanks.
This is NOT a high priority.
We probably not have time to make it into a SIGN in time for the rally.
But we WILL be able to use it in e-mails, and on threads posted here. :o)
