Well, it is his site and I wasn't there, so I have no criticism. I've been here a long time and was only removed when I requested to be removed. Now I'm back. I pay nothing unless I want to. I haven't a complaint in the world. This place is awesome. Sure, I've shut down for the night mad more than once. But it is just a reflection of real life. We're emotional creatures and we have to learn to play nice with others. I've been guilty of being a tad too harsh, so I try to endure a certain amount of abuse without being a big baby about it. I've made mistakes, been careless, flip-flopped and other stuff that deserved criticism. My least favorite FReepers are those who can never admit when they're wrong.
IMO, Jim and the mods do amazingly well balancing between anarchy and censorship. The thread my quote came from was initiated by Jim in response to complaints by others outside FR that he was too controlling. On the other hand, Sean was saying just the opposite -- flame wars have led to the decline of FR in his eyes. For myself (and I suspect a majority of FReepers), I'm not unhappy with the mix of freedom and control demonstrated here.
