Do we know what his "thorn in the flesh was yet?
(I always wondered.)
Pride seems to be what many think was the "thorn".
Some people have theorized it was homosexuality, others theorized it was a manic depression..........
Some have theorized it was a demonic oppression in the form of a physical affliction or harassment.
I have heard that his thorn was his poor eyesight, which is indicated in one of the epistles.
"Do we know what his "thorn in the flesh was yet?"
Many(most?) conservative Biblical scholars think it was a vision problem. Probably after suffering temporary blindness on the road to Damascus, he was never restored to full sight. There are things in his letters that would indicate he had poor eyesight.
A lesser held view was that Paul was marryed to a woman that wasn't a believer. This is not supported directly by scripture.
Whatever it was, it was given to him to keep him from becoming arrogant or prideful - that much scripture tells us.
I always thought it was because he survived being stoned. That must have left a mark . . .
his "thorn in the flesh" was the same as ours, Liberals!!
I always wondered if Paul was blind or had begun to go blind. (maybe cataracts?) Check out Galatians where Paul is rejoicing that when he preached to them they received him even as they would Christ. "They did not despise him because of his infirmity but would have even plucked out their own eyes and given to him."
Gal 4:13 Ye know how through infirmity of the flesh I preached the gospel unto you at the first. Gal 4:14 And my temptation which was in my flesh ye despised not, nor rejected; but received me as an angel of God, even as Christ Jesus. Gal 4:15 Where is then the blessedness ye spake of? for I bear you record, that, if it had been possible, ye would have plucked out your own eyes, and have given them to me.
The "thorn" was probably a craving for fresh bagels (or is it chala?). They just don't make them like they do back in the Promise Land, do they? I suppose that was one of the hardest things to give up for his missionary work.
"The thorn in his side"? my guess, liberals.
