One recent caller had told him that "you should be found dead in a ditch."
Nine out of 10 calls to his house are from "crackpots," he said, ever since a plate of cookies and a case in La Plata County Small Claims Court turned life upside down.

Depends on the neighborhood...the woman's response was way out of line. I wouldn't have eaten the cookies myself. However, suing for emotional damages??? GIVE ME A BREAK.

Would you actually eat cookies left on your doorstep after someone banging on your door at 10:30 at night and leaving?? No really SANE person would want cookies left ANONYMOUSLY at 10:30 at night and no SANE parent would allow their children to do that. Come on.....the lawsuit was stupid but the girls and their families were MORE STUPID.
you know....have you ever heard of "silly teenagers" ?? they do not always do things with the razor edge efficiency of the Durango Food Bank.....and they often mean well and don't quite bring it off....you call that "the folly of youth"
you DO NOT Murder it as dt idiot says and DO NOT SUE it as the slug did....you smile and let the kids learn...and not for ONE MINUTE do I believe there was any doubt as to the cookie source....I have teenage girls living near me and can well envision them doing something like this...and yes I would eat the cookies after a THANK YOU phone call !!!!

the last thing these young ladies were are idiots. They did a good deed and were punished for it by a vidictive BITCH!.
I hope she and the rest of her family are driven not only out of the area they live but out of the country. And the magistrate that heard the case should be booted from office and sent with them. This is not only a gross miscarrage of justice but an example of the total lack of common sense on the part of the legal system in this country.
