I'd like to see you cite specific examples because I think a lot of people think these defensive systems trace back either to Punch Imlach's Toronto Maple Leafs of the 1960s or Scotty Bowman's late 1970s Montreal Canadiens. Roger Neilson was another whose style slowed down offenses.
I always respect your opinion so I'm not knocking you. Just looking for examples.

Now if they went 4 on 4 all the time I doubt it would be as open as we see in OT. Part of that openness in OT is because they've already gotten 1 point, so now teams can play hard for another point without risking coming out of the game with nothing. But it would have to be more open in regulation than 5 on 5.

There is always AHL.

Should we start an I Hate Bettman ping list? If so, put me on it.

The Canadians lean even more favorably to the owners. The last TSN poll I saw was something like 60% players 30% owners.

No, I disagree. I'm speculating because I don't know the NHL's plan but I imagine it will work like this: The camps will open. The teams will offer salaries to desired players along the lines of the CBA offer, one player above $6M; four between $3-6M, etc.
So, they will be able to outbid the AHL, which is in places like Rochester and Worcester, for the best players. It will be the highly paid old-timers, fourth-liners and 5th&6th defensemen who will take the brunt next year. If my 6th defenseman is the 174th best defenseman in hockey and he's making $1.5M, give me the 194th best for $300,000. He's only playing four minutes a night. If I've got a moody Czech, a locker-room cancer who doesn't score 20 goals making $2M, stay in Kladno. I like this kid from Eveleth or Swift Current or Belarus for $300,000.
Besides, as Darryl Sutter says, everyone knows the best hockey players come from Alberta.

It's exhausting, though. No room for error.

Maybe use it the last 5 min of each period.

They're all hypocrites.

The players who are taking spots in other leagues are hypocrites.

The owners who turn down the players Salary Cap proposals are hypocrites.

Bettman is the worst of all - this is exactly what he wanted all along... to set it up for an IMPASSE next year. If he doesn't succeed in getting it? Back to the lock out...

The REAL problem will start showing itself when all these leveraged-to-their-eyeballs teams start showing net worth in the single digits...

THANKS ALL YOU GREEDY BASTARDS! (players, owners, Bettman)

However on a brighter note for WNY sports fans, the Bills simultaneously announced the impending release of Blew Dreadsoe...

Thanks Hat Trick, I just felt it was inevitable. Bettman being the anti-hockey pri** that he is, is determined to ruin the sport.

Cheers!

Interesting. I am somewhat surprised. But then again, Winnipeg moved to Phoenix because the fans didn't want to (or couldn't) support the team financially.
