Socialists Attack the Constitution (Feinstein Proposal)
The Reality Check ^ | 13 February 2005 | Jeff Adams

Posted on 02/13/2005 7:54:43 AM PST by Lando Lincoln

It was reported over the weekend of February 5th-6th that liberal Democratic U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein from California is putting together sponsors for a bill she is proposing that will finish off one of the last vestiges of State’s Rights and the original Constitutional construction of the American Union. Senator Feinstein wants to abolish the Electoral College. In its place we would be left with a purely democratic format for electing the President of the United States, meaning mass direct voting.

This approach by the liberal senator is understandable, because left to a popular vote, liberals would be more likely to win. This is a simple fact that can be appreciated by anyone who bothers to look at liberal hubs, which is the highly populated states of New York and California, as well as the larger cities in America as a whole. The senator from California knows this and is attempting to ‘rig’ the system in the favor of her and her liberal cohorts. The down side is that the South, Mid-West and Western states (not counting the Left-Coast states) will be left out in the cold and at the ! mercy of the socialists.

There are people of good will who think doing away with the Electoral College is a good idea. Their view is based on ignorance of how our system of government is supposed to work. The Electoral College is definitely a devise of a republican form of government, which is what America is: A republic, not a democracy. Those who wish to do away with the Electoral College either are socialists with an agenda, or poor dupes who don’t understand what damage they are doing to the safeguards the framers built into our system of government.

The Electoral College is practically a symbol of our American form of governance. To do away with it is to do away with a key aspect of our republic and embrace democracy (or should I say mobocracy), something the founders found untrustworthy. To argue the electoral system is flawed because a president can be elected without a majority of the popular vote is to declare one’s lack of knowledge of the relationship between the federal government, the states, and the people of the respective states. Only an idiot would advocate abolishing the Electoral College.

Our system has already been perverted in that people cast votes, thinking they are voting for a candidate for president. In truth they are voting for representatives, electors, that go and vote in the Electoral College. It is the electors that elect the president. It is our perverted system of political parties that has turned the electing of the president into a game of who can win which states. It is an impression that misleads people as to how our system was designed to function.

Some claim the Electoral College isn’t accountable to the people. Again, this is an argument born out of ignorance. If people would bother to read the Constitution, they’d see that the respective states are to select electors “in such Manner as the Legislature thereof may direct.” In effect, the state legislatures could pick the electors and leave popular voting in the states out all together! Once again, we are a representative republic, not a direct democracy. The people speak through their representatives, in the Electoral College’s case via selected electors (be it by popular vote in each state for these electors, or by the state ! legislature picking them).

Advocates of destroying our republic support abolishing the Electoral College. Why? The reasons vary, but the key ones include:

- By eliminating the Electoral College, one of the last strongholds in the Constitution against mob rule will be wiped away.

- Large liberal hubs will control the presidency, which is becoming more and more a focal point of federal power, contrary to the designs of the framers (the presidency was mostly to be a figurehead while Congress was to actually direct the limited role of the federal government).

- The ‘red states,’ as well as rural areas in ‘blue states’ will find themselves at the political mercy of the socialists that back this un-American idea.

Those who argue our system leaves voters feeling alienated aren’t interested in making sure ‘every vote counts.’ These people are interested in undermining the checks and balances that inhibit their ability to bring mass democracy into our political system. It is the hypocrisy and lies of politicians that leave voters feeing alienated, not our system. If we break down and allow this restructuring of our Constitution, the socialists and the bottom-feeders that buy their deceptions will be able to elect presidents that will promise the world, and will be able to deliver only by picking the pockets of productive people and turning our land into a copy cat of socialist Europe.

The Europeans aren’t that far behind the old Soviet Union when it comes to economic collapse. Is that what we want? Only fools, the unthinking, and those who wish to see America become a full-blown socialist state will back Senator Feinstein’s plan.

She can submit any and as many bills as she cares to submit.

They will all have a snowball's chance in Hell.

Memo to DiFi: The Democrats are not in charge anymore.

Our two coasts are populated with liberals who know exactly what they're doing with regard to eliminating the Electoral
College. They also are sufficiently adept at screwing around with the language to convince the Consititutionally ignorant that majority rule means nothing more than plurality of numbers. States' Rights is the foundation
of the Constitution. THAT part they omit!

Senator Feinstein wants to abolish the Electoral College.
======
This loser is another one of our fine Communists in the Congress. Of course the far-leftists want to abolish the Electoral College, it is an OBSTACLE for them and their Marxist agenda. They feel they can muster enough 'useful idiots' votes in the leftist s***-holes in this country to win popular votes. This had better be blocked -- because too it is another attack on our beloved Constitution WHICH PROTECTS US FROM GOVERNMENT TRYANNY, the very vehicle these maggots (leftists) want to be able to use to convert this country into massive government RULE. MARXISM TO THE HILT!!!

And even if they did, an amendment would have to be ratified by 3/4 of the states, including many small ones. Does she really think they would vote to diminish their power in national elections?

It still wouldn't mean they'd get their candidate in power...Wouldn't have gotten Kerry in, wouldn't have gotten Clinton in either...

I hope that in her lifetime Kaleefornia goes "Red" in National and Statewide elections. Her head will spin so fast her wattle will get whiplash.

Your are right. But could have...but more important, they CANNOT BE ALLOWED TO MODIFY OUR CONSTITUTION FOR POLITICAL PURPOSES!!!! That is what this is about, to set a precedent of changing it, starting such momentum, then going after our other protections. These people are POWER-MAD COMMIES, desperate in thier fight to CONTROL.

Not even that. It is a small number of mega-cities in the Northeast, Midwest, and West Coast that are overwhelmingly Democrat.

Has Nutty-Fi mentioned why we would need two houses in the legislature any longer?

Wish there was an edit function, on my previous post above:

"non-citizen" should read as:

foreign born citizen.

Really?

I wish I had the time to study and compile all the significant changes that have been made in the 20th Century that circumvented the Constitutional Amendment requirement.

Why should they stop now?

Just have a court declare it "Constitutional".

And they still haven't figured out that they would all last less than a month without the products of the "Red" states.
Literally.

They would starve in the dark.
