Did you have to ask? The article explains that someone has to pay for those injured in car accidents. If car insurance is mandated in California, then the author conveniently forgot the words, "illegal aliens".

Would it even be legal for illegal aliens to buy health insurance? Presumably the insurer will refuse to sell them a policy.

It was interesting the article did not focus on the illegal immigration issue in California. That is the elephant in the room.

You go it. That's why it ain't gonna happen, and if it does it will be a catastrophe of unintended consequences. What do you do when the first uninsured Mexican shows up? No, this is just a way to hook EVERYONE into paying for the illegals, whether you need health coverage or not.

For example, right now I am uninsured and self employed but with a reasonably large nest egg. I will likely be getting a very high deductable plan shortly. With required insurance, my hard earned dollars would mostly go to paying for the delivery of illegals, not to my health care. This would promote more illegals, and rapidly bust the system again.

It's a pipedream. Let the thing crash and burn as it is.

When health insurance is required, only law abiding citizens will have it. If the illegals flaunt immigration laws, they will flaunt this one too. I would assume the race card will be played immediately.

As long as the Ninth Circuit Court of appeals in CA. legislates rights for illegals at the expense of taxpayers, the flood of illegals demanding health care from cradle to grave won't stop. The solution for CA. and don't think they haven't thought of it already, is to pass the entire mess on to the Federal govt. and the rest of us.
