To stop Hillary, draft Condi - Dick Morris

As a social conservative and deeply religious person, she would face no bar in winning the votes of the Christian right, so crucial to winning the Republican nomination. Unlike former New York Mayor Rudy Guiliani (R) and Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) — both of whom could probably win in November — she would be very attractive to the pro-life, anti-gun-control, anti-affirmative-action base of the GOP.

America longs to put the period on the disgraceful chapter in our nation’s history that began when the first slave arrived at Jamestown, Va., more than 400 years ago. We also want to send a message to every girl, and every African-American or Hispanic baby, that there is no ceiling and that you can rise as far as your ability will carry you.

the United States is not ready for a woman President.

I hope you're right, because Hillary is going to test it for sure. I happen to believe that the time is just about perfect for a woman president.

Ouch DS, I feel your pain! I wish you all the luck with Condi. I expect to be invited to the wedding... and her inauguration in '09. Deal?

I'll stick with the truth.

Show me the truth.

Pro-life or por-choice?

"I've read a few articles about Condi Rice awhile back, where she supports abortion but thinks Roe vs Wade should be overturned and the matter left to the states."

Even if this is the case, she's still pro-life for practical purposes. What matters is that she thinks it should be left up to the states - whether or not the states should support abortion is not a presidential issue.

Does anyone have an exact quote from her concerning abortion?

Condi is NOT pro-life.

It's possible she could change, and she has not said much on this issue. I believe she is a woman of her word. If she came out with a strongly pro-life statement I would probably vote for her, because I believe she can be trusted. But I'm not sure if that is in the cards.

Giuliani, on the other hand, is more pro-abortion than 90% of the Democrats in the Senate. When the Conservative Party of NY offered to support him if he would just KEEP QUIET about his support of partial birth abortion, he refused. I admire Giuliani but I would NEVER vote for him for president.

Nor would I vote for Rice unless she changed her position and made a strong statement agreeing to continue the good work that President Bush has only begun. We need at least another eight years of solid judicial appointments to even begin undoing the work of the past 50 years.

The Republican Party should understand that there will continue to be major support from the voters to roll back the culture of death supported by judicial activists. But if they back off, they will lose their support overnight.

Would you have voted for Dwight Eisenhower? He was never elected to any office either.

I personally do not see it as a prerequisite.

Senators running for president is a losing road map.

Wrong. She will take 50% of the black vote.

Can someone source those quotes. While at Stanford she was a member of an evangelical church, usually, but not always a marker of someone who is pro-life.

I found an article that supports your position that Condi is not as pro life as some of us would like. In 1999, after stepping down as provost at Stanford to work for Bush's campaign, she told the San Francisco Chronicle that despite her devout Presbyterian background, she is a "pro-choice evangelical," and that "there's a lot of room in the middle [on abortion]. . . . I don't think Americans think abortion is something you do lightly." Later that year, she told National Review's Jay Nordlinger that she is "mildly pro-choice," and more generally, an "all-over-the-map Republican" whose views are "hard to typecast."

So you and Dick Morris interpret this statment to mean that she is pro-life.

Makes perfect (non)sense.

Where do you get off thinking the two are connected? Governors and Senators (to a much lesser extent) win the Presidency. Secretaries don't have the clout or the base to win the Presidency. If Condi is what we have to beat Hillary we'll lose. Get real.

I missed these comments of yours that were buried in the Weekly Standard quote.

So ignore my first post to you. They should be directed at Dick Morris individually.

Regards,

Its been done, JFK, LBJ and Nixon to name three. Recently the record is none too great. It may be the candidates and it may be the electors. I think the later. As I said earlier, running State or other Secretarial position is NOTHING like running a state as governor. I like Condi from a policy perspective and respect her work in this administration. That is not the same as her being ready to be President - politically or personally. We have other options and I don't mean Jeb either. This will start to look like a banana republic if we keep this nepotism up.
