America's top radio talker Rush Limbaugh was greeted like a rock star on Monday during an appearance in San Jose, California, while taking a few days off from his regular broadcast to play in the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am golf tournament.
The packed house at the San Jose Civic Auditorium "welcomed him with a standing ovation," reported the San Jose Mercury News. "There were no hecklers or protesters, and the only shouts were of love for the host," the paper said.
"We are in the midst of a seminal historic shift in this country," Limbaugh told the audience. "The Democrat party and the media have lost their monopoly. They don't rule the roost anymore."
The watershed political moment would have amazed his father, the top talker observed. "If my father could see what's happened today, just the sight of the Democrat party would extend his life by 10 years."
That's one reason conservatives have nothing to fear from Hillary Clinton, he assured those on hand.
Still, the GOP faces a major political problem that can no longer be ignored, he warned. "The Republicans' failure to understand the American people's building rage on illegal immigration" could give rise to a third party candidate, he said, who could tip the 2008 presidential race to the Democrats, much the same way Ross Perot's campaign did in 1992.
Limbaugh also seemed to revise earlier criticism of Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger for not being conservative enough, telling the audience, "I was wrong."
2,700 people paid $40 a piece to see Limbaugh live. Proceeds from the event will go to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, a charity Limbaugh has supported since he went national in 1988.
Atta boy Rush, back to the party line.
I am laughing so hard....
Yeah, you would think that is funny.
Pathetic way to taunt and torment a Viet Nam Vet
But heck, you had my vote.
You might as well burn the trash.
IF you were ever in Nam, you and Kerry should be good buddies. He can't let go of it, either.
Tell you what sport, If John F. Kerry is not the 2008 Democratic selection for president, are you willing to provide me with 2 roundtrip airline tickets to anywhere on this planet? That is what I am offering you if John F. Kerry IS the democratic selection for president in 2008.
Do we have a legal and binding deal?
Keep in mind that this thread/post will be archived and I WILL access it in order to hold you to your agreed to obligation. Do we have a deal?
Yeah, I'll admit that Geddy Lee didn't have the greatest voice around...he was pretty fugly too. But boy, could he play a mean bass! He was one of the best, IMO (my favorite bassist is Steve Harris of Iron Maiden).
& like I said earlier, I think Neil Peart was by far the greatest drummer AND the greatest song writer in rock history...PERIOD.
How about mine? Got anything to say about my hatred of vets?????
At every turn TomB has countered every one of your baseless allegations and all you have done is move the proverbial goal lines.
I think it's time for you to get off the self-pity wagon and move on to something more productive.
Take a valium.
Nah, take two.
Oh, SIR, I am not a phony from DU. I have been here at FR much longer than you. But, I don't know you from Adam's apple, actually. My brother was in Nam in '69. He doesn't talk any of his tour of duty. In fact, I think most vets do not, unless the subject comes up of their particular experiences relating to the conversation.
And my brother voted for President Bush because he thought him to be the best for our country...now because he is a vet of Nam thirty five years ago.
Just because John Kerry could not let go of his precieved Nam glories in the campaign does not mean that we have to endure it all over again. He lost. Let it go.
Being an observer of the Canteen, I have to agree with conservababe. Your tendency to overburden the threads with your graphics and such is a little bit anoying. Why can't you be just a fun participant without all the "Extras"?
And get over yourself, you aren't the only vet on this forum...........
Why not? You have made the statement, aren't you prepared to stand behind it?
Show your brother the post of the monk burning, with the text.
Then hang your head in shame.
I thought it was 50,000!
"Why not? You have made the statement, aren't you prepared to stand behind it?"
I'm not addicted to gambling, are you?
You should get some help if you are.
Do I take it from your tagline that you were only in Nam for six months? I don't mean to be rude, but I am confused.
People like me are people like you only from a more intense dry land perspective! LOL!!! Been there done that sport and even have a hometown friend engraved on that wall!
Be very careful on how far you want to milk this "self pity" crap.......
Clemenza. Stop picking on Hedgecock. You mean...nasty...conservative...you! :)
