BALTIMORE Mayor Martin O'Malley (search) likened the cuts in President Bush's budget proposal for urban areas to the Sept. 11 (search) attacks, drawing fire from his fellow Democrats as well as Republicans. Also Tuesday, O'Malley accused Republican Gov. Robert Ehrlich's (search) administration of spreading false rumors that he had an extramarital affair, prompting the governor to force out a longtime employee who discussed the rumors on a popular conservative Web site. The mayor, who is weighing a bid for governor in 2006 and is considered a rising star within the Democratic Party, was among a group of mayors and other local officials who held a news conference Tuesday in Washington to criticize the president's proposal to cut spending for community development programs by $2 billion. "Back on September 11, terrorists attacked our metropolitan cores, two of America's great cities. They did that because they knew that was where they could do the most damage and weaken us the most," O'Malley said. "Years later, we are given a budget proposal by our commander in chief, the president of the United States. And with a budget ax, he is attacking America's cities. He is attacking our metropolitan core." Montgomery County, Md., Executive Douglas M. Duncan said O'Malley "went way too far." "The president of the United States is fighting terrorism. It hurts our cause when people say things like that," said Duncan, who like O'Malley is expected to seek the Democratic nomination in the 2006 race against Ehrlich.

Is this the new cool thing to do? In other news... the cover for my bbq blew off during a severe gust of wind, it's just like the 9/11 attack!
Perhaps O'Malley should consider Ward Churchill as his speechwriter...
Man, comments like that make me what to land a plane on him.
Do these people even listen to what comes out of their mouths? Everything is "worse than Hitler!" "The Holocaust!"
"Like 9-11!" "Nazis!"
Another day another stupid remark by a Democrat.
O'Malley is really wrapping himself in victimhood, isn't he?
Not even a hint of intelligence. This is the face of the Democratic Party
So let me get this right: The budget is being increased by over 200 billion, almost everything is being funded at least at last year's level, and yet there are CUTS? Maybe paper cuts.....
Only in DC is a reduction in PROPOSED spending a CUT.....whether or not there are actually fewer dollars being spent
We'll, since you don't work for the governor anymore, would you like to comment?
Like the Federalist Party's response to Jefferson's Louisana Purchase of 1803, the Dem response to 9-11 will be noted by history as the death knell of that political party.
Baltimore is in great shape too. What a stunning, vibrant city people want to visit. Or maybe not!
So O'Malley wants to do for the state what he has done with the city? That isn't good news for MD, I think.
Who was the last GOP governor to get reelected? Hasn't happened in many decades. Ehrlich will have a tremendous fight on his hands, no matter who opposes him.
Since the Dems have no conception of the real evil of the world, I can see how they think everything is related to Hitler, 9/11 blah blah blah......if they had any REAL conception of the true horror of the past, they would STFU about comparing relatively mild events to other horrific ones. After WWII, with the exception of Truman and parts of JFK, all their leaders seem to be appeasers and weak minded
Democratic social programs over the past 40 years have done more damage to the American society than 9/11 will ever do. The govornment taking the place of fathers, the constant state of poverty in the inner cities that are controlled by Democrats, the decay of public education, the erosion of moral values, legalized abortion. All these are strongholds of the Democratic Party and all of these erode the fabric of America.
If we really want to defeat terrorism, we should export our liberal polititians to muslim countries and watch them implode.
I voted for him, and I don't talk like that. If you live in Baltimore you don't have a choice but to vote for a Democrat, and O'Malley was the best candidate. This does not mean that this comment reflects my view.
It could also be another part of the anatomy.
LOL, O'Malley.
Does anyone here watch Red vs. Blue?
"Hey, Caboose..."
"MY NAME IS O'MALLEY!"
... to God's ear.
