To view how far Detroit has fallen, you should visit an interesting web site (not mine) called "The Fabulous Ruins of Detroit", located here:

Navigation tip: just click on each photo to move to the next one. However, I found that, here and there, a few "dead links" exist. If you get dumped into one, just click your "back" button then "jump ahead" to the next ruin site.

Viewing the ruins, I was reminded of a short story by Stephen Vincent Benet (sp?) I read years and years ago titled "By The Waters Of Babylon"...
