Yes, that sounds very familiar. I have a good friend who is an assistant for the behavorial problem kids in Cincy public schools. She is a petite but tough lady, but the things she takes for granted as "thats just the way it is", I wouldn't tolerate for one second. She says all the time how they talk to her and denigrate her, and as long as they are not being physically violent she figures they are being good that day.
I'm sorry, but I wasn't put on this earth to be disrespected by thugs and pieces of human trash so bad they give prisons a bad name.
They would never want me to be in charge of anything in that district. I would have the ACLU screaming at the 120 decibel level. I would even have PETA screaming that I treat them worse than animals.
But if they want to act like animals why shouldn't they be in a cage?

Many will say this is a good thing. There will be more welfare to go around to each person needing it.

My wife is a teacher in an at risk high school. They are lucky, they have a coach who has been on the job for 30+ years. He will take no crud from anyone. Kid acts up the kid goes to the coach.

"We will continue to add strategies to grow Detroit neighborhood by neighborhood." Why? Why would you want to encourage a cancer to grow?
The US Forest Service should begin releasing wolves and cougars there.

I watch Animal Cops on TV and have seen enough of Detroit!!
What a rat hole...Debbie Mac Donald, an animal cop, should run for mayor..I could see her now trying to snare the crooked, two legged, vermin that infest that free loading City!!!
To: Bon mots
Give the city another 20 years and you will be able to release wild life there. No people will live there then.

Ok. How in the hell did Detroit get 5,000 more votes for Kerry than last time when they had a 975,000 population??? That's at least a 80,000 population swing.
The fastest growing county in the state gained about 18,000 votes over last election, and gained about 30,000 people or so.
Something ain't right.

5.5 Million? I thought it was about 4 million. (2 Mill Wayne County, 1.2 Oakland, 800,000 Macomb)
Still high though.

Plus, Cincy and Detroit don't attract the gays, singles, and DINKs that keep other cities (Seattle, San Francisco, etc.) relatively prosperous.

My dad is from Newark. His nabe was one of the few that never built projects. Its still a relatively safe area, attracting immigrants from Brazil and Ecuador, as well as a few folks who work at Prudential and Blue Cross. Once you get past the Penn Central tracks however...
