This is really hopeful news.
All sides must recognize, however, that the crazies WILL at some point try to disrupt the process with another bombing of Israeli civilians.
Here's when we'll know whether the Palestinians are serious: When the P's react to such an attack with the same urgency and swiftness that Israel has employed in the past, locating and arresting the terrorists (and not releasing them w/in days). In simple terms, the P's must be motivated to protect Israeli security. Only then will the way be clear a real peace plan.
We will know Abbas' commitment to the peace plan by how he deals with the first terrorist attack.

No this is just SSDD.
"Really hopeful news" would be Abbas handing over to the US for trial of ALL terrorists who are wanted for murdering US citizens.
"Really hopeful news" would be Abbas executing the official who was found to be behind the attack at the checkpoint a few weeks ago, instead of "reassigning" him.
You appear to believe that Israel should be willing to sacrifice the lives of its citizens so that Abbas can "prove his commitment" to peace. F that.
Agreed. If the cycle of arrest-release revolving door is still in place, we can forget the whole thing.

It's a certainty that Shin Bet is keeping a close eye on Kach and Kahane Chai, who will be just as enraged by a real deal as the Pali nutjobs.

Abbas put some firm controls on Palestinian television
yesterday. Suicide bombers are no longer to be reported as "martyrdom operations," they're now "explosions." No more footage of blood in the streets, things like that. Call me cautiously optimistic, but it looks like Abbas is serious about the peace process.
