Foxnews is reporting that Sharon and Abbas are meeting, and that the announcement of a formal cease-fire is imminent. They said this is 'not the start of peace but the start of the process that will lead to peace'.
Apparently Abbas and Sharon will continue peace talks throughout the day after the announcement.
Break out the tuxedo? It's the end of the "informal" shooting?
This should take some of the luster off the brilliant foreign policy successes of the Clinton Administration!
Breaking News? It's been in all the papers and all over the tube.
Before the shootings and bombings were formally approved.
That Sec. Rice is not seen in the middle of this is, IMHO, a brilliant move and shows a true understanding of the region by the Bush administration.
Really? I don't see a single story in the sidebar that there is an announcement imminent of a cease-fire. I suppose I could be wrong about it though.
Great.
Maybe in a few months our government can stop sending them both our money.
There is a story on BBC website.

I think think this joint announcement meets the definition of "breaking news".
You're an optomist. More likely, an agreement to send more money to both parties is what is at the bottom of this sudden change of heart.
Hopeful bump.
This is really hopeful news.
All sides must recognize, however, that the crazies WILL at some point try to disrupt the process with another bombing of Israeli civilians.
Here's when we'll know whether the Palestinians are serious: When the P's react to such an attack with the same urgency and swiftness that Israel has employed in the past, locating and arresting the terrorists (and not releasing them w/in days). In simple terms, the P's must be motivated to protect Israeli security. Only then will the way be clear a real peace plan.
We will know Abbas' commitment to the peace plan by how he deals with the first terrorist attack.
yep,, Clinton would have had to make himself the story and Bush couldn't care less about that
Yeah, I know............
Remind me again which party is the "fiscally conservative" party........
Believe me, I'm not from the Breaking News Police Department (BNPD).
Oops, I meant to address you also.
No sweat-- I know you are not one of the BNPD. :-)
> This is really hopeful news.
No this is just SSDD.
"Really hopeful news" would be Abbas handing over to the US for trial of ALL terrorists who are wanted for murdering US citizens.
"Really hopeful news" would be Abbas executing the official who was found to be behind the attack at the checkpoint a few weeks ago, instead of "reassigning" him.
You appear to believe that Israel should be willing to sacrifice the lives of its citizens so that Abbas can "prove his commitment" to peace. F that.
