JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - It turned out New England Patriots safety Rodney Harrison had "something special" for the entire Eagles team and not just loose-lipped receiver Freddie Mitchell, who recently disparaged New Englands no-name secondary.
Harrison came up with his third and fourth interceptions in three postseason games this season, as he contributed to the Patriots 24-21 win over the Eagles in Super Bowl XXXIX. His fourth-quarter pick sealed New Englands victory.
Prior to arriving in Jacksonville, Mitchell told ESPN that he only knew the Patriots patchwork secondary by their jersey numbers and that he had "something" for Harrison.
While replacing injured receiver Terrell Owens in the first two playoff games, Mitchell scored two touchdowns in the Eagles divisional victory over the Vikings.
Mitchell was silenced in more ways than one as he finished with no catches and a drop in the first half, while Harrison had five tackles, a sack and pick.
On the play after having an interception by cornerback Asante Samuel called back because of a questionable illegal contact call on linebacker Roman Phifer in the first quarter, Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb lofted a flutter ball toward the end zone. Harrison made an acrobatic interception, leaping in front of intended receiver Brian Westbrook.
For Harrison, who had deflected the disallowed pick to Samuel, it was his franchise-leading fifth postseason interception.
On the next series McNabb hit tight end L.J. Smith over the middle, but while Harrison wrestled him to the ground, cornerback Randall Gay punched the ball out for safety Eugene Wilson to recover.
She's drinking the pitcher!
I sure hope not. Andy Reid is a damn fine coach. It isn't by accident that his team has been in the NFC Championship four years running.
That's a lot of humanity that Philly Fan is holding on to!
I see those Philly fan pictures and all I can think of is Eric Cartman saying, "Mmmm let me taste your tears, they are so yummy and sweet. The tears of unfathomable sadness...yummy."
Eagles still have the same number of SB Titles as the Detroit Lions.
Yes, the talk of a New England dynasty is annoying but nearly as annoying as talk about how great the Dallas Cowboys used to be. :-)
Probably a good thing Philly lost last night. Had they won the city probably would have burned.
You say that as if that would be a bad thing. ;)
The great thing about being a Cowboys fan is that we suck now but we won't suck forever. We had the Staubach era, Aikman era and there will be another era on the horizon.
Philly for example sucks now, then and will continue to suck.
Vermeil is in his last year with KC..lol!
Nope, Andy will still be head coach.
Here's a prediction that you can bet the house on:
The Eagles will continue to hitch their wagon to a quarterback who CAN'T PLAY!
Oh, that's priceless. The Iggle chick chugging the beer straight from the pitcher sums it all up.
"The 1990s Dallas Cowboys -- the greatest NFL team of all time (especially the 1992-93 version) -- would have dismantled either one of these teams."
Free agency would have dismantled the 90's Cowboys.
It was pretty obvious early on that New England would have to beat both the Eagles and the Officials to win the game.
Bwwaa haa haaa haaa!!
Good one, I like that.
I'm loving this...
Well, maybe we'll do something about that in the next few years -- but first the Cowboys need to find a QB.
Free agency did dismantle the 90s Cowboys. That, and the salary cap.
