JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - It turned out New England Patriots safety Rodney Harrison had "something special" for the entire Eagles team and not just loose-lipped receiver Freddie Mitchell, who recently disparaged New Englands no-name secondary.
Harrison came up with his third and fourth interceptions in three postseason games this season, as he contributed to the Patriots 24-21 win over the Eagles in Super Bowl XXXIX. His fourth-quarter pick sealed New Englands victory.
Prior to arriving in Jacksonville, Mitchell told ESPN that he only knew the Patriots patchwork secondary by their jersey numbers and that he had "something" for Harrison.
While replacing injured receiver Terrell Owens in the first two playoff games, Mitchell scored two touchdowns in the Eagles divisional victory over the Vikings.
Mitchell was silenced in more ways than one as he finished with no catches and a drop in the first half, while Harrison had five tackles, a sack and pick.
On the play after having an interception by cornerback Asante Samuel called back because of a questionable illegal contact call on linebacker Roman Phifer in the first quarter, Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb lofted a flutter ball toward the end zone. Harrison made an acrobatic interception, leaping in front of intended receiver Brian Westbrook.
For Harrison, who had deflected the disallowed pick to Samuel, it was his franchise-leading fifth postseason interception.
On the next series McNabb hit tight end L.J. Smith over the middle, but while Harrison wrestled him to the ground, cornerback Randall Gay punched the ball out for safety Eugene Wilson to recover.
I read the headline as if a deceased Beatle was mocking the Eagles. I was wondering...
I really enjoy when trash-talking punks are deflated.
Moral:
"Loose lips sink ships"?
Congrats, Patriots.
Harrison caught more passes and Mitchell, as it turned out.
lol!
THAN Mitchell, that is.
Questionable? That was textbook illegal contact downfield. If you want to talk about questionable officiating, how about the officials missing a blantant pick (offensive pass interference) earlier in the drive to set the Eagles up that deep?
BWhahahha! Youre cracking me up.
Excellent picture! Of course, all this talk about a New England dynasty is a bit annoying as well. The 1990s Dallas Cowboys -- the greatest NFL team of all time (especially the 1992-93 version) -- would have dismantled either one of these teams.
PREDICTION: The Egales will have a new head coach next year.
That missed pick call set me off. That illegal pick happened right in front of the ref too. Then the very next play the same ref calls Phifer for the illegal contact penalty. That ref should have his pay docked because that was awful, just awful.
Oh the humannity!
